Only about 8 months in, and I'm about to be done with nursing.
I will never work at another hospital until there is a mandated patient-to-nurse ratio. Never.
On top of that, it sucks being a guy working with all females. It just does. You get ran over, spit on, talked to like DIRT..... wondering when and what day you'll get stabbed in the back from forgetting to do the smallest thing because you had 7 patients with half a tech on a step down floor. For real?
Please tell me all of nursing isnt like this? Did I really waste all this money?
Where do you go from here after working at two different hospitals within a year of graduating? I know im not stupid, and that I'm capable, I just know I cant be the only one that feels like this.

Go into home health. You only have to deal with one patient at a time, and you're on your own all day.
You get to schedule your breaks where you want them, eat what, and where you want. The only time you come into contact with the back stabbers is early in the am.
Just don't give up. I've worked with lots of male nurses and except for one, they were some of the most competent, compassionate nurses I've ever had the pleasure of working with.
You have lots of options, explore them. I bet you'll find just the right spot for you.
Great idea! Actually contacted a local home health agency today, will put an app with them. The lady said call her back monday and they will direct me to the proper office in my area. It's worth a shot at least. Actually, my preceptor for my most recent job said she really wants to go back into home health.
I dunno, its just all so frustrating. I really want to help people, but I was just so bogged down with the impossible workload. Its depressing.
Good for you! Let us know how the interview goes, and we'll be right here, rooting for ya!

Well, first let me say that I love the fact that men are in the nursing profession. Thank God! A lot of women can be viscous and you help with that because most men are not catty. It's a shame that you've been treated this way. Good luck with everything.

Home health is a good area to get away from a lot of the workplace nastiness of dealing with coworkers. Most of the time, you may never meet another nurse on a case and that has its advantages. Hope you like hh, should you go that route.

It also just might be the unit you're on.
Yes, there are the backstabbers everywhere, but why not try a floor with a different vibe? Maybe you can go into a procedural unit or a unit where the nurse to patient ratio is a little lower, but the acuity is higher. This way when you're in a patient's room, you don't have to leave, this way you avoid all the drama!!

Seven patients on a step down floor? As in a ICU step down?!?
Run.

I also need your help! I have taken the HESI exit 3 times and have been very close to passing each time. I take version #4 in a month. I have to make a 850 so if you could email me any info that you have I would greatly appreciate it! My email is [email protected]. I need to pass this exit exam so I can graduate. They are letting us walk the stage and do pinning, but I can't state boards until I pass this exit exam. So please help. God bless us. Have a great day! Thanks again.

Agree!! Do not leave nursing! I welcome male nurses into our almost all female profession. Maybe we will become less nasty and more friendly with men around. Hold on. :redbeathe
