Abbreviations

Is there a good website where I can find out what abbreviations mean? For example: VT -ventricular tachycardia.:)

I personally don't know of any sites but your nursing text books, if you still have any qould be the best place to look. Some abbreviations are regional. If you list them here the viewers could probably let you know what they stand for. (ok grammaar wasn't my forte) :roll Any thing in particular?

Unfortunately, a lot of abbreviations listed on these sites are already on the "outs"--such as QD--need to write "daily"--or QID (too easily confused with "QD"). It is best to check with your facility as to which abbreviations are acceptable and which are not. The "acceptable" listed is getting shorter by the day. If in doubt, simply write it out :)

Humorous: Some folks (esp docs) have some of their own abbreviations. One day I saw BPH & BOO. Well, I knew what BPH is, but not BOO. Turns out it stood for "Bladder Output Obstruction"...
