AANP exam - did I pass????????

Published

Took the AANP yesterday and boy am I frazzled. When I was done and hit the button the screen asked do you want to take survey. After that test without knowing if I passed. Then screen went white. Finally another screen came up and it was a paragraph. I believe it started with something like congratulation you passed and the rest was a blur, but after talking to someone else who took it they said that is not what theirs said. I asked when I signed out. Prometrics wouldn't/ couldn't tell me.

I thought I passed, I told everyone I did. Now I am not sure. Anyone remember about what the screen said, whether pass or fail. Don't remember seeing the word failed, think I would remember that, and EMS didn't revive me so I am hoping.

any help

Thanks

I knew you had passed. You couldn't miss that big sign that read PASSED. I felt the same way. Congratulations now off to work you go...

The ANCC (America Nurses Credentialing Center) has been around longer and is more widely recognized (and even preferred by some employers, like the VA). It offers certification in many areas of nursing, not just for NPs. Until recently, it was the only certification officially recognized by all 50 states.

The AANP (American Association of Nurse Practitioners) is an organization that represents NPs and advocates for us on many levels. Part of the reason I chose the AANP was to show support for the organization. In my area, many NPs are certified by both agencies, although it is NOT necessary. To be competitive, I want to be certified by both agencies also.

The ANCC will grant certification to an NP who holds certification from the AANP. It's called reciprocity and is a kinda loop-hole. I am taking the AANP exam Aug 7 and if I pass, I will apply to the ANCC for certification. One test for two certifications (well, hopefully only one test!) :)

I just took the test, and the same thing happened to me, that screen is soo crowded, I do not know what it said

Saw it said something like: have PASSED .................blah, blah, blah

did not see the word NOT

Will check the AANP site in 2 days; Let's suggest they make the screen simpler and the pass or not pass really clear

I took the AANP exam this morning. When I was done, after completing the survey, I got the notification that I PASSED. Remember it's a preliminary results, I sure hope to heck they don't turn around and say I didn't pass later...that would be evil. I was given a print out with that said I passed according to the prelimenary scoring by Prometric. The ladies at Prometric told me that the print out just something new...but it specifically says it can not be used for liscencing or anything...the true results will come in the mail.

How did u girls prepare for the test and pass!!!! did u take a review course, more than one, or cd's, which ones..... Amamela's (sp) or fitsgerald???

any suggestions when you call the test center how far are they booked to schedule the test?

I gave myself 6 weeks, took AANP and passed.

My 3 main study sources were:

1. Margaret Fitzgerald Nurse practitioner certification and practice preparation book, Also I bought her CDs on ebay and listened to them in the car mostly.

2. Zerwekh and Clabborn: Family Nurse practitioner certification review Book and CD.

4. Codina Leik: Family Nurse Practitioner certification Intensive review fast facts and practice questions

This has concise bullet key points that you must know on each condition.

#1 and #2 are specially good for rationales. #3 is good for fast key concepts.

Key concepts and rationales on each subject is what needs to be learned, the questions on the exam did not ressemble any of the study questions in particular; only knowing rationales you can safely eliminate answer options when the answer is grey and not black and white , and that is the case in just about all of the questions on the exam.

The sources above are the ones I used the most and found the best, I had other many sources that either I did not use or I only used briefly due to lack of time, such as:

The Barkley review, which I took review at school , Mometrix fnp secrets study guide and flashcards that came with it (did not touch), Amellie Hollier certification prep exams (this might help, I just did not have enough time to go throug it in length due to other sources), answered questions on ancc website short test sample

Best of Luck!

Way to go peeps! I am so excited when I read these posts. I would like to know if you can sit for the exam even if you're not working as NP? Best to all of you who passed, and positive thoughts to all those planning to sit for the exam:)

I took the Fitzgerald review course live (very $$$ but well worth it.) I also bought the Fitzgerald review CDs off of Amazon or Ebay for 1/2 price used. I also used various review books to "practice." In my last semester they had us take an online assessment at APEA that tells you areas you need to focus on...it was a good practice too.

In my opinion, this is sufficient preparation. I felt ready to go after the Fitzgerald course but waited about 2 weeks because of other obligations.

As far as scheduling the test, you can see what's available for seats at Prometric.com. I actually rescheduled 2 times, moved it up sooner and had no problems getting in when I wanted to.

Hope this helps...good luck.

By the way, the test really was rather unpleasant. I thought I was totally failing at first but then the 2nd half I flew right through with confidence.

I totally agree with the help on test taking rationale provided in the review books/courses. I think a lot of what Fitzgerald taught was very helpful when I was unsure or had narrowed down to 2 answers. I think that understanding the question at face-value and not thinking about all of the outliers/personal experiences is essential in helping to succeed with the exam. Remember, all four choices for an answer may actually be right...you just are needing to choose the BEST (or first-line treatment, for example.)

I just took the test about 2 hrs ago and the preliminary report said passed. I used Fitzgerald review CD's her review book and Leik's review book.

Honestly for me the Fitzgerald review helped in that it helped me with critical thinking....it's not about memorizing. You have to know the disease process, medications etc. The questions are not going to be straight forward...maybe a few...but for most you do have to think. Therefore you have to have an understanding of the material and how to apply it.

I cannot say that it was so easy, I found some questions difficult some easy and most in between. There were questions that I had absolutely no idea what the answer was and I guessed. Apparently I did well as I passed.

I'm sooo excited.

Hi everybody I need some help in AANP/AANC exam. I took AANP and failed for couple points. Have test anxiety and switch my right answers to wrong and need some guidance to study..please if anybody can help me.

Did you take a review class? You will gain much confidence if you do. I took Fitzgerald and felt very positive afterwards. As far as switching answers. Remember it is important to narrow down your choices as much as possible. I recall that I could easily get down to 2 choices (AANP test), and then tried to rationalize as to which would the best answer. Sometimes...it was just a 50/50 guess. Consider your first try of the test as a "practice run," and you will be much more confident when you retake. Also, ask your friendly NP for something for anxiety to take prior to your test. :) Good luck. You can do it...afterall you survived the rigors of Grad School!
