AACC Spring 2012 hopefuls?

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello fellow MD nurses!

I'm just looking to see if there are any prospective Spring 2012 students at AACC? I'm finishing up A&P2 this summer and will be putting my application in in the fall. Anyone take the TEAS yet? Any advice? I'll probably take mine in August when I'm done with classes so I can focus on studying for that as opposed to my other classes.

Wait, you're saying it's first come first serve? That's ridiculous! Why would they do that. What's the point of even having a deadline. Now I'm freaking out that I don't even have a chance because I didn't get my application turned in soon enough, even though it's before the deadline.

Your saving grace on this one is that most people don't know that it is first come, first serve- so most applications will be put in within the next 2 weeks. I agree that it's ridiculous. Now I'm just hoping that UMSON likes me enough to offer me a spot in their traditional BSN program because I'm not sure that I got my AACC application in in time.

...only time will tell...

No, I'm still screwed then. I won't be turning my application in until next week. Oh well, lesson learned.

Eh, you never know. The only "preference" that is given now is to AACo students, and there are 88 spots (72 regular and 16 hybrid). So, it's entirely possible that you'll get your app in within the first 88 spots.

I am very frustrated with the changes- and I anticipate that AACC's nursing program will lose some of its prestige now that anyone with a 2.5 GPA and a Proficient TEAS score can get in.

It'll be rolling admissions from now on- so if you don't get in the Spring 2012 class, I'm sure you'll get in the Fall 2012 class. Or you can do what I did and start looking at other options. I found out that it'll take me just as long to get my BSN as my ADN (I have 5 semesters of college from a few years back- but only 3 of those classes are being applied to my BSN- Intro to Soc, a humanities course, and English 1). Bowie State has a great program (and accelerated one, too!), so does Towson, and I'm also applying to University of Maryland. I figure I'll explore all options and see what doors open for me!

Well I am a county resident so fingers crossed. And good luck to you as well, we all need it. I'm in the same boat, if I don't get in for this spring I will continue with my classes and apply to other institutions. Like Towson and UMSON. I wouldn't mind just going through and getting my bachelors out of the way, as I planned to do that after my ADN. I'm just so sick of being in school! I just want to be done.

I turned in my application today. Now the waiting begins. I was a former LPN student at AACC a few years ago. The teas was not nearly as bad as I thought. Also, I found out that the score requirements are not that strict when it comes to the teas v. Proficient has a wide range it seems when it comes to percentage score. I have been told that the nursing department will be sending everyone e-mails in about 2 weeks to let us all know if we are in for the spring or wait listed. Good luck to all and I hope everyone gets in!!! I love this site.:D

Did you get an idea of how many people applied already??

No clue how many people have applied. I tried to look through the sign in book in the office to get an idea, but the lady was watching it like a hawk and I didn't want to seem like a nosy little B.

LOL I thought the same thing when I brought in my application. I REALLY wanted to look in that binder but she was guarding it very closely. I think we all feel the same way. We're all on edge and just hoping. It isn't waiting at all! But, take comfort in the fact that the application is now "rolling" so eventually we will all get our turn. From what I have read and heard it seems a lot more people applied for Fall of 2011 than for Spring 2012. I have seen a lot of postings where everyone had to have their apps in by this past June. Also, back to that BIG BINDER... don't be intimidated. That binder is for anyone and everyone applying for all health professions (like EMT, LPN, etc.) I am just trying to stay hopeful and optimistic. As long as you have all the pre-req's you will get in...Sooner than later would be nice though right?

Haha I tried to do the same thing. If she would have turned her head for just a second I think I would have flipped through like a mad woman!

For some reason getting an email about whether or not I am in upsets me. I want the huge packets like they used to send out in the mail :( something I could actually hold seems more legit to me.

It is nice that it's rolling admissions so that we'll all get in at SOME point- but I don't really have time to wait. I busted my hump to keep my grades up while working, being mom, being wife, etc. I put in extra effort so that I could be at the top of the list and that I wouldn't have to wait. It's just slightly frustrating to know that someone who did the bare minimum necessary may possibly get a slot before me. It just makes all of the hard work and stress that I put myself through for the last year and a half was for nothing. Oh well... nothing I can do about it now! :)
