Hello fellow MD nurses!
I'm just looking to see if there are any prospective Spring 2012 students at AACC? I'm finishing up A&P2 this summer and will be putting my application in in the fall. Anyone take the TEAS yet? Any advice? I'll probably take mine in August when I'm done with classes so I can focus on studying for that as opposed to my other classes.
Any recommendations for stethoscopes? Should we get a top of the line one off the bat or go with a mid level one until we're better at discerning sounds? And are we allowed to have various colors?
Personally, I'm not very informed yet about which ones are worth spending the extra money, but I can pass along what our instructors have told us, which is not to get an expensive one to start out with. I just went on amazon and bought a $20 set with a stethoscope and a blood pressure cuff, picking largely based on reviews from other customers. You are allowed to get what ever color you want- mine is bright purple! And one of my classmates has a really cool pink camoflague (sp?) one. Happy hunting!

Would you by chance know what brand your stethoscope & blood pressure cuff are?
Thanks so much for all the great help and advice!
Hi all! I am new to this site, I just stumbled across it and man am I glad I did! I applied for the spring 2012 semester and got a phone call last week telling me that I have a guaranteed spot for the Fall 2012 semester, but that I am so high up on the list that I could get bumped up to the spring one. After reading through this thread it seems like I missed my spot by only a few hours. I'm bummed, though happy that I do have a spot. I'm hopeful that I might get that spring spot after all.
So, I was searching the site for anyone who has ever been on the waitlist and found a couple of threads. It seems like the people who have been waitlisted in the past have joined the students who already had spots at the orientation. One person said that she went and actually was bumped up while at the orientation. I was wondering if anyone would post the date of the Spring 2012 orientation so that I might have the same luck. I would really appreciate it. And, or course, congrats to everyone!!
Thanks!
I know a few people who have gone through AACCs nursing program. Their advice was all the same: even if you're waitlisted, still go to the orientation. There's a good chance you'll get a spot. So, with that said, the orientation is Nov. 8 @ 9am at 101 FLRS.
Best of luck getting a spot!
Great! Thanks so much!!

This is the one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Lumiscope-Purple-Blood-Pressure-Stethoscope/dp/B000U5KKKU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317565480&sr=8-2
I actually ended up buying the Littmann Classic II SE stethoscope from medisave.net because they have free shipping and free laser engraving of your name onto the stethoscope for 74.99 I got it in Raspberry and like the idea of having my name engraved on it because if someone tries to steal it I'll have a way to prove it's mine.
I decided to go ahead and get this one instead of one of the cheaper ones right now because I didn't want to spend money on a stethoscope now and then spend money again later on a nicer one. I just decided to get the nice one now and hope it lasts me a long time!
Here is the link for anyone else that may be interested. They have a ton of different colors to choose from and I think it's pretty cool that you get free shipping and engraving right now.

Yup, sorry to confirm bad news, but the scrubs do indeed have to be white. You won't need them until week 9, so you have plenty of time to shop. The Nursing Student Association will have a scrub sale, but not until right before clinicals. You can get your uniform items there pretty cheap, but beware- some of them are very thin, and see-throughiness (technical term, lol) is already a big problem with white scrubs.
I picked mine up at Gallo Clothing in Pasadena on Mountain Road. They have a really good selection and there are a lot of different brands, (textures, cuts, and levels of thickness too) to choose from. The prices are decent- I think I paid $12 for my tops and $10 for my pants. Personally, I love the fit and built in pocket organizers on the Winks brand scrubs, but they have some cutsy Grey's Anatomy ones, and a bunch of others as well if that matters to you. You can also pick up your stethoscope and blood pressure cuff there for cheap. (Yeesh, I feel like I should be getting paid for this ringing endorsement, lol).
Anyhoo, you will also need to pick up the AACC nursing patches at the college bookstore, they're about $4 each, if memory serves.
Hope this helps!
