Aaah! Starting Nursing School NEXT WEEK!

Nursing Students General Students

Hey Guys! I have lurked for quite a while, and gotten into the discussion a FEW times, but not too many.

I am so nervous! My BLS for Healthcare Providers is Next wednesday (the 17th), and then orientation on BOTH the 18th an 19th.

I am stocking up on my stuff I need for school!

I've got two pairs of my "flared" scrubs (The regular ones they first sold me... looked very weird on me), my nursing student tops (complete with our schools initials (MSON) embroidered in black on the tops (and they were 32 bucks each! Sheesh...), and my dad just bought me my "all white" shoes I needed for clinicals.

I'm ecstatic!!!

My best friend bought me a digital voice recorder for my birthday (he's so great!!), and we just went out and bought my new computer. It is my BABY!!!!!! I got a brand new apple i book...

you can see it at that website, but WOW, those pictures don't even do it justice. I can't wait to break it out to really use it to take notes for class, etc.

I am so nervous and excited all at once! Hopefully, I'm buying my books tomorrow (WHO KNEW THAT ONE SEMESTER WOULD COST $600.00 for BOOKS?!?!), which is bound to make me even more excited.

*When is everyone's "starting" date?(I "officially" start on August 22nd)

*What are your clinical uniforms?(I told about them above... All white except tops are pinstripe)

*Have you subscribed to any magazines to help? (I subscribed to RN and Nursing Made Incredibly Easy

My program is going to be 19 months with the longest break being one week. This is going to be a couple tough years!

Our start date is August 15th (AGGGHHH!! :rotfl: ) at UMass Medical School - GEP program which will hopefully lead me to be an NP by 2008! 90% excited, 10% scared...........okay, maybe more like 20% excited 80% terrified! :smackingf

Spent a ton on books ($700 - saved $200 by ordering them from Barnes & Noble.com though - if you have the ISBN #'s and spend $25 on a membership card, you can save a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$ :yelclap:

Our uniforms really aren't that bad - navy pants, white polo type shirts with our program embroidered on them, and the white coats. Not too bad. :D

Good luck with your programs, everyone!

PS - don't worry about the BLS class. Do you already have the book? If you already have the book, read through the book carefully, do the practice tests, and make sure you know the practical material ( if you want, you can practice CPR on a pillow, that is what I always used to do!). If you read through the book and go over the practical stuff, you should be more than fine! :yeah:

Again, good luck with everything!

I am starting Nursing School Sept 1st, I have orientation on Aug. 22nd, I am a little nervous but mostly excited!

I will be ordering my books from barnesandnoble.com, free shipping and very good prices with membership.

I have my PDA, uniforms (all white with puffy sleeves and a school patch on the sleeve, tapered white pants-yuck!, you would never know it's 2005 when I put it on!!), all white sneakers, blue littman steth, bandage scissors, penlight, notebooks, plenty of index cards, sharpie markers, highlighters, etc!!

Can't wait to start, I have been saying that since April, and now it's only a few weeks away!

I start classes on the 18th!! I'm really nervous and excited.

Our uniforms are white tops with a school patch on the arm, navy blue pants (cargo style), and all white shoes.

Our books cost about $800.

Good luck to everyone :)

I start school Aug. 29th. I think I finally have all of my stuff. I feel so fortunate because I was able to buy all of my books for about 455.00. I was able to hook up with a first semester student who had to drop out and sell all of her stuff. Our uniforms are white tops with school patch on the sleeve, and teal pants. GAG!! I have my drug screen next Monday and CPR on the 23rd. I'm soooo ready to get started.

Good luck all of you.

Howdy All From Arkansas! I have to do a 6 hour medical observation tomorrow, the 17th is orientation, and we start on the 22nd.

Our uniforms are white embroidered polos, hunter green pants and jackets. I had to buy two different sets because I'm pregnant, lol. I've bought my shoes, steth, pen light, etc

I haven't got my books yet, but a friend of ours goes from school to school and buys books for a company. He's trying to get my books for me, otherwise I'll buy them online.

Do you think I'll be ok without a PDA?

:) Good luck to all!

Hey y'all! I'm starting an ADN program on the 19th here in Southern Mississippi. I'm excited and nervous. Our uniforms are white with a maroon stripe on the sleeves and of course the school patch. My books for first semester are $300.00. After reading the previous posts, I don't feel that is a whole lot.

Hello again! I didn't want to subscribe to these magazines because of the price. Especially nursing made easy because it was listed @ 40 dollars on most subscription websites. Nursing made easy is also bimonthly , and i'd never seen an issue so I didn't want to chance it!

But then I found this website:

http://www.bonusmags.com/nursing_made_incredibly_easy!.html

AND it was only 12 dollars for a year subscription. I haven't recieved it yet, but hopefully will soon. I thought it was a great price, and DEFINITELY worth it. I also got my RN magazine as a special deal online...

It was on year for 19 bucks, through the RNweb.com (where the magazine is from)

Good luck! I can't wait to recieve these mags and I will let you know how they are (I know RN is good, I have been getting it from the library!)

Thanks for the link. I was not going to get any as well because of the price of the subscriptions. Even the student rate wasn't that much better in my opinion. We're nursing students for pete's sake! You'd think they would take that in consideration. Your quote sounds way more reasonable. Post a new thread if you find that it's worth the money.

Yeah your books are very reasonable. Haven't gotten mine yet, but my advisor told me to expect to pay about 800-1000 bucks!:o

For those that are interested in magazines, lots of times schools get bulk magazines and those are available for students - we get 4 or 5 of them free. For those magazines that the program doesn't get, there are usually those cards floating around somewhere with info on ordering and you can usually get a pretty good rate. Also, if you become a SNA member (part of our tuition) you'll get tons of offers in the mail for magazines that are usually pretty reasonable.

Our library also offers all the nursing magazines and they are available for check out for a week at a time. I usually start there 1st, since those are free.

Good advice:)
