Aaaaarrrrrrggggggh!!

Hope everyone had a great holiday. Had to work and can you believe we only had 2 YES 2 Cna's for 60 residents (3-11 shift)! This has to be an all time record. And management sitting at home enjoying their holiday. And to top it off we have only had 3 Cna's for the past two nights. Everyone is so mad that they are threatening to quit. And did anyone besides us nurses even say THANK YOU to the 2 CNA's for working their butt off, no of course not! Okay got it out of my system. But my question is, is this even legal??:angryfire Anyone else out there this short staffed?

The management at my facility has forbidden nurses and aides to discuss actual staffing numbers with visitors, residents, and family members. However, I always tell the truth about our staffing ratios for that particular day if I am asked.

Where I work, the facility does post how many RNs, LPNs, and CNAs are scheduled, along with the number of residents that are in the building. However, the staffing numbers reflect the staffing before callouts and facility cancellations, so they are not really accurate for those who look at the list.

hmmm I must be sheltered! Everywhere that I've worked, I've gotten holiday pay for working a holiday. Guess I thought all facilities gave holiday pay, ie: time and a half (at the minimum)

My workplace posts staffing information conspicuously in the front lobby for all to see, but the numbers are grossly inaccurate. The posted staffing information includes all of the nurse managers such as the DON, three ADONs, the DOSD, the MDS nurse, TILES nurse, nurse case managers, and other licensed personnel who generally do not help us out on the floor. However, since they are in the building, they get to be included in our staffing numbers (even though the only space they occupy is in their cozy offices).

okay i must say that is really bad. I know over the last holiday we had, management came in and worked as cna's because we were so short. Our facility does not use agency and we were down 14 aids (meaning we had 14 positions open) all of the cna's had been working doubles and everyone was at burn out and getting sick and injuried. the mds corrdinator, mmq coordinator, DON, ADON/SDC, and alll unit mangers came in and worked. I can not see your DON letting that happen. She is ultmially responsible for the care that is given in your building.
