A question for career changers.

Do you feel that the interpersonal behavior in the healthcare environment is different from the interpersonal behavior in other professional settings?

If so, what is different, and why do you think it's that way?

I have my own opinion which is probably transparent in this question, but I would like to think about others' opinions.

Specializes in geriatrics.

Politics and being overworked is the same everywhere. However, I think there is more complaining and gossiping in this profession, primarily because it is a female dominated profession. More nurses need to learn to be assertive, say what they think, and get on with it.

Specializes in cardiac, ICU, education.
The kind of backstabbing that occurs in business is different than nursing because numbers do not lie.

Unless you are on wall street. (Remember the 2008 mess?)

I think it comes down to the culture of the business/unit and the manager of your floor. If those 2 elements are positive, you won't have said problems. I realize everyone is speaking from their own experiences vs. just true fact, but wether you go into the "Business world" or health care (Both are now the business world) you have to look for a good culture and good manager or you will have problems.
