I finished my first semster of nursing school. My grade was less than a point from passing this semester. So now I have to retake my course. I just have to retake one out of the two nursing classes. The other class I got a solid B. I enjoyed clinicals and this made me realize that I did pick the right career choice. I struggled with picking the best choice. Any suggestions? Any help with critical thinking? Test taking? I know to use Maslow's, ABC's, and go with your first answer. I have used these techniques and still struggled. I want to overcome this test taking dilemma. Thank you for all your suggestions...they are greatly appreciated:specs:

Now that you've gone through a semester, you know what to expect. That should help you quite a bit, if you stop to think about it. I'm sorry this happened to you, I know how frustrating it is to lose something by such a tiny, narrow margin. All you can do is beat your head on the wall in frustration for a few minutes, then dust the concrete off your forehead and give it another determined try. Good luck.

I am not in nursing school yet, however, I am doing 75 questions of NCLEX a day. I have a mentor who suggested I get Kaplan. I am also doing NCLEX 3500. Rightnow, I am averaging 73% on every test. I have not read any chapter in the book yet. When I am ready to read the chapters, I will know what to focus on. I believe it is going to work for me. One thing I have learned so far, is to understand the materials, rather than memorizing. I am also focusing on the nursing processes, to know what each question is asking, whether it is assessment, diagnoses, planning, implemment or evaluation. My anatomy instructor prepared me well because I had many critical thinking questions on the exams. She would give us patients scenarios. Good luck to you.

I'm convinced I continue to make A's in my nursing courses because I do as many practice NCLEX questions as I can find. I do all the questions on CDs that accompany my texts, and the Saunders guide is an excellent investment. Answering the questions tests your knowledge of a topic and allows you to practice prioritizing the answers. Hang in there!

You're practicing taking NCLEX and you aren't even a nursing student? That's just...whoa. How can you critically think through a situation when you haven't even started with the basics?
