A Little Financial Help Please!!!!!

Okay I started school in 2002 as a CHEM major, so what was suppose to be my last year 05/06 I changed my major to Nursing!

Well, I've been attending an expensive private school in Nashville, TN and paying for it through federal gov't loans. What ever the loans didn't cover I had to pay out of pocket (which was a lot).

So to make a long story short, I have one more year to graduate with my BSN but I can't continue school because I owe my University like $8000.

And they won't release my records (i.e. my transcript) until I pay them back.

I can't continue my education without a transcript and they're not letting it go!

What should I do??!

Should I apply for school (at state of course) and just have them try to retrieve my records for me??

i would like to be able to give you the answer but i don't have a clue. my guess is that the money would have to be paid before they would release the transcript period. could you take out a bank loan to cover the 8k.. i don't know just a thought...

Thanks for trying txspadequeen921.

Unfortunately I'm not able to take out a loan, oh how I wish I could!

any possibility to make a repayment plan and present the plan with some form of payment in order to obtain your transcripts?

anyone there who you could discuss this with - student advocate, student counsellor, the dean?

Unfortunately this debt is not likely to just go away by itself. You will need to pay the school back somehow, or they will likely refer you to a collection agency to get their money back. Call the payment office and see what you can do about a repayment schedule and see if there is any way to get your transcript during repayment, rather than after.

I highly doubt another school will offer to retrieve your transcript for you (I've never seen it offered anywhere I've gone to school) and even if they tried, it would still probably not be released due to the debt you owe. Out of concern, though, if you owe that much money to one school and are trying to transfer, how are you going to pay your tuition at the new school?

I agree with the other posters about trying to work out a payment schedule with the school. I also have the same question, "How were you planning to pay a new school if you don't have the money to pay your existing debts?"

Sometimes, we don't get everything we want exactly when and how we want it. Sometimes, the path to success involves a few detours along the way. This may be such a time. You may simply have to take a break from school and get a job, save some money and pay down that debt before taking additional classes. While that would delay your graduation, it wouldn't prevent it.

In some schools, if you fail a class, you have to wait until the next year to take it again and continue. There are thousands of nurses all over the country who had to "sit out" a year for that reason and other such reasons. Your financial situation might require something along those lines. If that happens, see if you can use that time wisely. For example, you get certified as a CNA and work for a hospital that provides tuition assistance for nursing students (as my hospital does). That would help you pay for your remaining classes.

I agree with LLG and the others. It may seem like forever to wait until you have paid your school back, but the reality is if you have no money to pay the school you are leaving, you probably have no money to attend nursing school. On a brighter note, you will work hard and be determined to get rid of the debt, save for your future education, and finish nursing school with flying colors because of your current circumstances.

It took me five years because of finances to change my career to nursing. I WISHED I could go to nursing school the entire time but there was no way I could go. Now I am in nursing school and absolutely have an appreciation that most of my peers don't have because of my the wait and my struggles. Other obstacles have come and gone since I have started school and none of them have come close to preventing me from continuing my degree. I worked too hard and waited for too long to be stopped now! Things will work out for you too if you set your mind to it! GL.

Okay... I don't know if this is going to make sense but... because the school that I owe is SO expensive my gov't loans alone did not cover tuition which is why Im in this predicament now unfortunately.

But the school I want to go to now is much much cheaper, that the loans Will cover the tuition, not to mention that this school is known for their nursing program and the other one doesn't even have one they just have a bridge program with yet another expensive private school whose tuition I would also have to pay.

I was just hoping for some "magical solution" that I never knew about, lol! :lol2: I can't believe the only thing holding me back is one little piece of paper. :o

I tried. I thank you for your opinion though.

^^ that is another plan of mine... although, i was kinda hoping to do this part-time while going to school, but it looks as if life is not perfect.

What you say is SO true... I hear students complaining about this big exam they have coming up, how hard they have to study. Meanwhile, in the back of my mind I'm like, "man, I wish I had those problems" lol :lol2:

You are truly an inspiration! Thank you! I guess Im just freaking out a little b/c Im afraid my life is moving along without me. :uhoh21: I hate waiting to get my life started, you know. That's what it feels like.

Oh, I forgot to say... Thank You, all of you, for giving me a little of your time and thoughts!

I'll keep you all posted on my outcome for those interested.
