A&PII Lab without Lecture, is it possible??

Published

It's been about 4 years since I took A&PII. At that time, I withdrew from the lab (I wasn't nearly as motivated back then and did some stupid things). I passed the lecture with an A. Now I'm registered to take the Lab class this fall, but since it's been so long since I've had any A&P and have pretty much forgotten everything I learned, I'm worried that I might have trouble passing the class. I'm going to take it anyways because I have to. I did go ahead and get the book that's required for the lecture and am planning on reading through the chapters as I go through the lab and hopefully that helps. Has anybody else taken a lab without the lecture along side it and done okay?

Thanks!

not me personally but one of my friends did. She had passed the lecture but failed the lab, retook just the lab...did well.

I think a lot of it depends on the instructor. Many times, what we were doing in lab was not the same things we were studying in lecture. It was almost like our lab and lecture were two different classes. However, there were some professors who's lab and lectures coincided.

If you could talk to people who have had this professor before, it would probably be helpful. You may then have a better idea as to whether or not it's possible.

Ditto the suggestion to check with the prof. Our A&P labs were mostly an extension of the lecture with very little actaul "lab" content so at my school I doubt it would make much sense to take it separately.

My lab and lecture never coincided, so, if your experience is the same as mine was, then, I'd say that it can definitely be done. Each school does Anatomy 1 and 2 differently (in fact, I had a friend who attended a accelerated RN program where the semesters were so short, that it was broken up into Anatomy 1,2 and 3). The way mine was run, labs were easier, it was more memorization of body parts and having to walk up to stations, answer what the part was and then, when the bell rang, to go to the next station. If I had lab alone, it would have been a breeze!

It all depends on the department's policy. When I took A&P, the lab and lecture conincided with each other. The department did not allow students to only take a lab -- it must be taken in conjunction with the lecture.

sometimes at my school lab and lecture are taught by different people all together.

I did it. Took anatomy lecture in 99 as an undergrad and got a B (didn't study enough for the final and bombed it). Decided I wanted to go to nursing school and took the lab in summer school last summer. I worked my butt off to get an A, but not having the lecture actually made it easier because I had less work to do. The lab and lecture covered topics at roughly the same time but were completely separate, and the lab was notorious for being much harder than the lecture.

If your schedule allows, why don't you take just the lab but sit in on the lecture to refresh your memory?
