A&PI and ChemII same semester?

Published

Would taking Chemistry II and A&P I the same semester be too much at once? I've heard numerous horror stories about A&P.

I guess it depends on what you can handle. I've had previous chem classes so taking Chemistry is familiar, and, while I didn't take them at the same time, I wouldn't dread the idea of A&P and Chemistry together. If you think you'll have struggles with the classes and taking them simultaneously will affect your grades significantly, then play it safe and don't do it. However, if you can spare the extra time needed to juggle studying for both classes, then go that route.

Is it a survey of Chem class or a full-blown Gen Chem? If it's the in-depth class, I would say try to space them out. Chem took up a LOT of my time and I couldn't imagine taking it with A&P at the same time. You'd be swamped with memorization. You don't want it to impact your grades. Something to think about.

Depends on a lot of things. Are you good in those subjects? I took A&P 1, Chem 1, TX Government, and History all in the same semester and got an A in all four courses. On the other hand, I'm sure there are people who have struggled terribly and had to withdrawal. You must do some self-evaluation. :)

I debated this exact scenario for this current semester. I went back and forth trying to decide whether I should take the two together. I have a dear friend who is also a straight A nursing major that told me to NOT take chem and anatomy together. I hadn't fully made up my mind until the reality of lecture and labs for both really hit me. After awhile, my husband, who is extremely supportive, also thought I'd be taking on too much. With great resistance, I opted to take the two courses separately. Now that I am here, I am SO happy I broke the two up. I'm studying continuously for Anatomy, and doing extremely well (I have an A).

It's up to you. What responsibilities do you have other than school? Do you work, do you have a husband, or children? Do you have a support system in place? All of those things are important to consider, before making your choice. If I was a single girl, no kids, living at home, with minimal work and distractions outside of studying, I would have definitely been able to swing both classes at once. Every situation is different. Take a look at how your life is structured and make the best decision possible.

Good luck!

I'm currently taking both A&P 2 and chem as well as the lab and another class. I also work full time so it's very much manageable just use your time wisely.

I live in the dorms at my school & my financial aid covers that, so I don't pay any bills. I don't really have to much responsibility for anything other than my part time job (roughly 15 hrs a week). However, I'm not exactly sure how well I'd do in chemistry or A&P. I just don't know what to expect. It's survey of chemistry, not full chemistry.
