A&P 1

Published

hi! so i need so advice from nursing students bc i am in a dilemma. Here's a little background on it: I got to a community college. First semester this year i took a&P 1 was confused by my teachers teaching and the way quizzes ran so i messed up the first few weeks of the semester, towards the middle of the semester right around midterm time, i missed a few quizzes and a test. My teacher would not let me make them up so i withdrew from the class. ( kinda regret that now). So i retook it this past spring semester. I had a tough teacher this semester who moved very fast and did not take as much time on each chapter so it was hard to learn. I recieved a c- as a grade. In order to transfer after my sophomore year at CC to a real college i need a C or better. Or at least that is what most of the colleges i looked at require. SHould i keep the c- and make sure i get an a in a&p 2 or should i retake a&p 1 again and get a better grade and meet the requirements but have one withdraw and one retake on my transcript? If i end up retaking it i will be put pretty behind bc when i got to apply for transfer in the late fall, early winter it will i am taking a&p in the spring 2015 semester. Then that leaves me with taking microbiology, chem, and a&p 2 for the spring semester and I am worried that will be way too much for me. PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE MY ADVISOR SUCKS.

Specializes in Emergency.

Retake A&P I and get minimally a B+. Having a C- on a hard science, especially in phyisology or anatomy, will not look good on your transcript.

I would retake it, and slow down your courses, or your GPA will suffer even more. You may not be able to apply as soon as you'd originally planned.

One thing to think about- nursing school moves EXTREMELY fast, and much of the learning is on your own. You need to take some time to figure out how you can work on your study skills, test taking skills, whatever you need to work on. Is there a learning center at your school?

I would definitely retake A&P 1, and plan on not being able to apply for transfer as quickly as you had hoped. If A&P1 was hard for you, I would recommend not taking more than one science class per semester. My school does not allow you to take Micro until you have completed both A&P1 and A&P2 with a minimum of a C in each; it utilizes concepts from both classes, and I think it would have been even more difficult without the background the A&Ps gave us. I'd recommend retaking A&P1 in the fall, A&P2 in spring, maybe Micro in the summer if you did well in both, and then Chem in fall 2015. You're better off putting in the time and getting good grades; if you rush and don't do well, it's unlikely that you will get into a nursing program anyway.

I agree with people about retaking it. Also, make sure you really put the time into studying. You can youtube study tips. That was super helpful to me! On a side note, I would contact the pre-nursing adviser to check that you can retake it. Some schools only allow one retake. If the first time was a W on the transcript, that may or may not count. I'd just contact the adviser for advice for that specific program.

I thought A&P II was harder than A&P I. However, I also took them at two different colleges (don't recommend doing that bc you will miss info). I ended up with a B in A&P II bc I rode the professor off as being horrible and didn't take the time to make myself understand the material. My GPA was a 4.0; so I had just gotten used to A's coming easy and almost expected to have an A with little studying. That's something I regret bc I am now trying to teach myself A&P II to prep for nursing school next year. Take the time to really learn the material now.
