A & P

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I registered for A&P I fall semester. I am really nervous about taking it. I attempted taking it before (in Michigan some schools lump I & II together in one class) and I was so overwhelmed. Any advise on how to nail this class? I am currently carrying a

The best advice I can give is to keep one step ahead and don't fall behind, dedicate a certain amount of time to study, read ahead for the next lecture take clean notes you can understand and don't be afraid to ask your instructor for help if you don't understand something. Pictures and diagrams I looked up online helped me a lot. Also you can go on youtube and find a boat load of stuff to help you study. The instructor will throw a lot of new info at you, and I think thats what makes it harder to learn because it is so much. Usually intructors will point out major topics and things they absolutely want you to know, so always make a special note of those. good luck!

I passed A&P several semesters ago and managed to get an A+. Here are some tips that helped me... Sit in the front row. I always sit in the front because it helps me stay focused. Always read the assigned chapters. Take notes during class, sometimes my instructor would start a sentence by saying, "You need to know that....", or "It's important to understand that...." those are usually subtle hints about areas that you need to focus on. I would usually highlight those particular items while taking notes. Participate in class discussion, and ask ANY questions about areas you are unsure of. NEVER feel silly for asking a question. Participating in class discussion always helped me to get a better grasp on the material. If your instructor uses PowerPoint presentations, find out if they are available for you to print out. If possible, print them out before class and follow along during the lecture and make notes or circle critical information directly on the PowerPoint. You could also make audio recordings of the lecture. I didn't do this during pre-reqs, but I have found it to be greatly beneficial with my nursing classes. Always ask for permission first, some instructors don't allow it (my professors always gave me permission). I listen to the audio recordings on my 45min. drive to school. That is all I can think of at the moment :) These ideas may not work for you, but they work for me. Good luck to you :)

My school teaches the two separate, however these are a few things that helped me get an A in anatomy.

1) FLASH CARDS. So many flash cards.

2) The library on campus at my school has models of muscles, bones, etc. I'd take sticky note flags and put the names of the parts I needed to know on them, then I placed them on the model and checked my work. I also copied the pictures from the lab manual with what I needed to know and labeled them repeatedly.

3) Quizlet.com

4) I'd also practice on my son when I got him dressed in the morning, or on my husband when we would hang out on the couch in the evening.

5) I never used these, but they do make Anatomy coloring books. I think you can get them as cheap as like $4 on Amazon.

Good luck! :)

Don't fall behind!!!! Also, understand that one chapter typically builds off the previous chapter. If you don't understand the previous chapter, learning the current chapter will be challenging. Good Luck, you can do it :)

I too am taking AP 1 this semester... About to start in a week. All of these are awesome tips, thanks so much! In addition I am watching "Mr. Fords anatomy and physiology" online tutorials. He is a professor and has videos On His website and YouTube. He is awesome! Pretty much follows out text book. Any help I can get!

Hi everyone! I am new to allnurses! I have not taken the NLN for Southwest yet. Has anyone taken it? What do I need to do to better prepare myself?

Like everyone said, don't fall behind. You cannot learn all the muscles or bones and parts of each bone in a short period of time. I took it a couple years ago and got a D, partly because of my teacher and his testing style. OK maybe Im just pushing blame on others because I didnt study enough. But I do have to retake it in nursing school so I am being proactive until January and restudying A&P 1.

Anatomy was so interesting, but required many hours to study.

Don't try or EVER cram the materials.

Whatever you learned in the lab, at least go over twice on that day, and keep continue reviewing. The more you fall behind, the more you will get stressed out.

Good luck!

What I meant don't cram was that don't procrastinate. I tell my friends don't cram on any subjects. Because cramming is hard. :/

Following! I too am taking A&P I this fall semester. Like you, I attempted to take it before but had to drop due to a lot of personal issues. I have since placed everything else on the back burner and am more than ready now. Good luck to you this semester!
