A&P 1 over the summer semester

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello fellow pre-nursing students!

I have only 3 pre-reqs left to take before I can apply to the ADN program at my school. I need A&P 1, A&P 2, and PSY 101. I am currently finishing up my microbiology course this spring semester 2015. I had planned on taking PSY101 this summer 2015, then A&P1 in the fall 2015 and A&P2 in the spring 2016. But with the way that my nursing school's admission program works, if I did it this way I would have to wait to apply for spring 2017, and I don't want to wait that long. I want to apply this year either for Spring 2016 or Fall 2016. I am more confident that I will be able to get accepted in Fall 2016 more than Spring 2016 but I still want to be able to apply. With that being said, I want to take A&P 1 this summer 2015. I work full time from 8:30a-5p (which is why I have only been taking one or two classes a semester since 2012) I already have all the books and supplies for the class because I originally was going to take it this semester but dropped it because it was too hard to take along with micro. So I plan on studying the systems and memorizing all the bones and muscles in my book before class starts in the summer so I can be ahead. Has anyone else done A&P in the summer semester? Just looking for some tips and advice on this class and anyone's experience with taking it in the summer semester.

Thanks!

Hey guys!

So I only have two weeks left of my A&P 1 course. It was tough but definitely doable. I kind of fell behind one week, which happened to be the week we were testing on the bones, because I was in the middle of moving from our apartment to our new house. I didn't do horrible but I know that I could have done better than what I did. Advice to anyone who plans to do this course in the summer is to never get behind. We had a lot of people drop but overall it is a good group of class mates, no complainers. Everyone understands that it is a summer course and it is going to be intense and complaining about it is not going to change anything. It is A LOT of self teaching, so it would be advisable to go into this course with that understanding.

I wanted to leave an update to let everyone know how it went, and some advice for future students who are thinking about taking this course in the summer semester while working full time. I also took an online philosophy class during the summer.

Thanks!

awesom job!---I chickened out and took ethics and child psych for my online summer classes--I will do a&P II this fall and then micro in the spring-----then it will be time to apply!!

just to add--I did get an A in A&P I during spring semester(YAY!!!)

Update! I got an A!!!

The class was definitely a toughie, no walk in the park at all.

But it is such a relief to have stuck with it and achieve my goal.

Yaaay!

Congrats! I can't stress enough that a solid foundation in A&P is a must to be successful in med-surg during nursing school. Way to go :)

summer school A&P1 , psych and math is doable working part time?

Specializes in Emergency Room, CEN, TCRN.

I wouldn't want to take math at all with A&P. I tried as hard as possible to not stack "hard" classes together. A&P is a different type of class where you definitely have to dedicate a lot of time and mind power to excel in, while math takes a lot of similar kind of dedication, which could be really hard during a summer session. I'd say psych and A&P wouldn't be too bad, but is there any way to take a different class than math during the summer?
