A&P2 and Microbiology

Published

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some insight. Classes started this week for us. I'm a stay at home mom to 3 children for background. I do not work outside of the home. I had originally planned to take A&P2 in the fall and micro in the spring but have been told by the community college that I plan to apply to that I have to have A&P2 and micro completed before applying to the program in February for fall 2017. So now I'm looking at taking A&P2 and Micro in the fall. They will be the only two classes that I take. Has anyone taking these two classes together successfully? All I get is negative feedback. I certainly don't want to set my self up for failure. I have until Monday to drop one if needed. A&P2 meets once a week for lab on Wednesday evening and Micro is tues and Thursday nights for 3 hours. What's everyone's opinions on this? All feedback is greatly appreciated!

It depends on how much you like science and how much time you have to study these two. I did not find A&P 2 to be challenging but others do. A&P 2 is all memory. I am in Micro right now so I cannot give you an opinion on that one. If those are the only two classes you have and you are focused and ready for it I think you will do fine.

I did it and barely made As in both classes. While I wouldn't recommend taking both at the same time, it's doable if you have a strong background in science. You'll see a lot of the same concepts from general biology and chem (e.g. cell structures, cell respiration, osmolarity, stoichiometry). Just don't fall behind and set aside some time to study every day.

I will have to take these 2 courses together as well and I have a 3 year old, an almost 2 year old, and a newborn at home. My two older children will be going to daycare while I'm at school though, so I won't have to take night courses. I'm pretty nervous about the course load. Luckily, I have until January. I'll be following though :nailbiting:

I'm taking these two together winter term. My advisor told me a lot of students do it successfully. I know it will be a challenge, but it can be done. I would suggest asking for help early if you need it and using any tutoring or study center resources available on campus. Let your family know you need their support with picking up slack around the house. You can do it :)

I took Micro, Physiology, Anatomy (3 separate classes) in the same semester. I got 3 B's and I've always been terrible at the sciences. I had a kid (single mom) and PT job. You can do it, as long as you set aside time away from family to focus on schoolwork. I already posted about this in another forum so you can look for it if you'd like.

Also I never took chemistry. My advisor said most people fail micro without taking Chem first. It just depends on how bad you really wanna reach your goal!

I took A&P1, Micro, and Psychology at the same time, while working full-time. If you're solid on your background Biology and you stay ahead of the work, I bet you'll do fine!

I'm actually taking Microbiology and A&PII this semester as well. Its been 3 weeks so far and I think it'll be manageable. Microbiology seems to have a lot of basic biology with a little more details. Its quite interesting though. My A&PII instructor is AMAZING and I feel like everything is super easy but I'm told A&PII is quite hard . . . I was advised not to take A&PI along with Microbio by almost everyone and so I left Microbio off my sched last semester. This is my last semester with Financial Aid (problems -_-) so I decided to bite the bullet and take both A&PII and Microbio together to save some money!

I never took A&P combined (took them as separate classes), but isn't A&P 2 just the second half of the book? What makes it more difficult? Taking a medical terminology class helps you with anatomy since you can break down the words.
