A&P II Summer 2008

Published

Hi,

Anyone taking A&P 2 this summer. Join me here and we can help each other out. I know the faster pace is going to be tough. :D

With it being a summer class, you probably won't have much free time but if you do, I'd recommend downloading the Berkley series of AP, they are pretty good. I'm lucky that I have a job where I can listen to music and I'd just put them on and try and catch stuff here and there. Fun times good luck to you all!

I'll be taking A&P II this summer (7 week course), as well as Organic Chemistry (I know - I must be completely insane!). It was the only way I could fit Organic into my schedule before I apply to nursing schools (my top choice has Org as an absolute pre-req). I have three kids 7 yrs. old and under - and a wonderful husband who supports me fantastically. If anyone has any advice for me - I'm all ears!!! Good luck to everyone this summer.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I know I should be studying right now, but it just seems so boring. I hate the endocrine chapter with a passion.

Specializes in Certified Nurse-Midwife.

Me too!:D I'm working on the cardiovascular chapter. I skimmed through the endocrine chapter. I really need to go back and study it to prepare for the first exam, but it's so dull.

Me too!!! Ok so the hormones tell the organs to do things...alright already, I get it! :banghead: Didn't we already learn this stuff with the neurotransmitters? On the bright side, it's at least familiar. And I definitely don't hate it as much as I hated memorizing every dadgum muscle in the body!:D Good luck everybody!

At least the chapter about blood is marginally more interesting. I already have my first test to take at the end of this week. GAH! I'm taking mine completely online, anyone else? It's not the way I would have preferred, but from all of the other teachers at my school, I heard to never take class with the one who is teaching in on campus this summer. So I went with that advice!

Since it's online only, I have a fetal pig in my house :( I've not opened him yet (named him Hector!) but I'm dreading it. Not because it's gross, just because it's in my own apartment! I actually wish I had a lecture of some sort, even if it was just a dvd of the teacher lecturing because that part's way harder for me. So what I'm doing instead is downloading all of the powerpoints (sooooooo many!) and downloading anp2 podcasts from iTunes, and listening to them all night at work every night. It's not perfect but it's something.

Whoa what's to hate? I found it amazing! Plus it is the basis for everything that happens in your body pretty much. Learn to love it! All the other systems tied back to the endocrine system when I took it.

My prof had a thing for essays, all of our exams were 7 to 10 essays. I'd say about 60% of all my essays for each of the systems that follow were tied back to the endocrine system.

Very different!

Mine is online, but the exams are proctored. I just got my lab kit with a pig heart, pregnant rat, and I think a kidney. I haven't opened the box yet. I like to watch the Berkeley webcasts.

Specializes in Day program consultant DD/MR.

I was looking into taking A&P at local CC but they only offer it separatly. You take Human anatomy then Physiology.

Oohh do you have a link for those webcasts? That would be tremendously helpful I think.

We have 4 exams this summer, midterm and final are both cumulative and proctored, exams 1 and 3 are done at home with no proctor :D

Specializes in GYN/GON/Med-Surg/Oncology/Tele.

I'll start A&P II June 26 and it will end July 28th I believe. I can't wait to get it over with because I will officially be finished with my prerequisites.

I got a C in A&P w/o studying so I know if I apply myself I can get the A in A&P 2 I need to bring my GPA up to a 3.3.

Good Luck Everyone~!:specs:

Very different!

They're really not very different at all...that's why both the nervous system and the endocrine system work together as the major control centers of the body (the hypothalamus-hypophisis connection, etc.). Both NTs and hormones are usually small peptides, they're messengers, they have target organs/cells, etc. I know there are some major differences, but to me the structure and function are very similar. Both my prof. and my book say the same thing. Just my :twocents:.
