A&P I.........Love it or hate it??

Published

I'll be taking A&P this semester and have heard many people say they flunked the class because it was so hard and they hated it. On the other end of the spectrum have heard people say they love it. I know it's a lot crammed in all at once and I'm getting nervous about it. Most of the reactions I've been getting is that A&P is the only class I should take this semester because it's so hard. I'm taking 5 classes altogether. Are they exaggerating or are possibly the ones who didn't really study? Anyone have any thoughts on this or any info you can give me? I'd appriciate it, thanks! :)

i really enjoyed a&p. it was hard, but i enjoy the challenge. i also adored my professor which made it that much better. it is by far the most challenging class i have taken, but what a rush when you end up doing really good. this is not a class you want to get an "easy a" in. this class prepares you for what lies ahead. your professor needs to be very tough. he/she would be doing you a disservice in the long run if they weren't.

Hey there, I took A&P over the summer and was a breeze. That is only because the TEACHER was a lazy butt and didn't want to teach us. I was excused from the final because I was getting 100% in the class. This was taking at the community college. Had I taken it at the local state university it would have been a lot harder. Now I'm worried when I have to take A&P II at the state university. I don't think we are prepared. The idiot teacher told us that it might take two rounds of A&P II to pass it. Moron! Oh well, glad it is over and looks like I'll be having to do some extra studying before I take A&P II this Spring semester. Shell

first, i do not reccomend you to take 5 classes with A&P. A&P is hard but you will make it. i took 3 more classes except it. you need to study for each class, so you do not stay back. some things you will know, but there are lots of new too. i would advice to take even less time consume and relax other courses so you do not "kill' yourself. i took psychology, sociology, composition on my first semester with a&p, later on i was lucky to have the same teacher. i knew what to excpect and i took again psych course, speech and humanitis. i just learn to manage my study time and personal life also.

if you are good standing student and know how to manage your time so i am sure you will do good. do not relay to much on other people opinion. listen but go and check it on your own. this is your time and choice to make it. you know that you have to take this course and i am sure if you consider going for that you know what you do. listen others opinion but see what the true is.

lots of depend also from a teacher. if you have good reccomendation who to take for it and you know that person have good experience with that teacher take him or her.

you always can share the notes, experience.

good luck to you and all others :)

i am from europe too. from my college experience i know that foreign students do more hard work to be good student. it is because for us english is second language. before taking any course, if our english knowledge is not enough we have to take some esl courses. i was lucky having english as second language at my H.S. in my native country - poland. i know how hard i have to work sometime to prove to my teachers that i am not stupid and i know how to talk and write in english because i am not american.

besides, from our early years we learn to work hard for what we want to achive. our family, personal, work, education goals are what we fight for since we start to go to school.

in poland, education level is very high. most of H.S. ( i would say 90%) is as on university level here in usa. it is not a joke. when i came here i never go to H.S. because it was waist of time for me. i just start nursing school. the only missing courses i had to take was psych and A&P. 95% of my subject from poland was accepted. and i know i was lucky with it. advise for other foreign student is to find out what you can have accepted by your school from any given country, talk to councelor, lawyer, whoever can help you. at NY, there is institution where you can send your diploma from school from foreign and country and have it accreditated. most of the school here accept it.

good luck to all of you, :)

it is me again but last time for now. i just want to add that i had 8 months old baby-girl when i started my nursing school(now 20 monthes). it was extremely hard but here thanks to my mom who is helping by her. it is life school too especially for parent-students. only i know how many times i wanted to give up but when i think about her, she is only one to keeping me to going for what i want to get.

:)

I took a&p 1 along with chemistry and my first nursing class, plus 3 other classes at the same time. It was a lot of work (20 hours!), but not impossible. A&p ended up being my favorite class and I didn't mind studying for it. You come out of it with a much greater respect for the human body. I am amazed at how many little things need to work just right every day over and over in order to keep the body alive - we're so fragile! Anyways, good luck in your class, and don't stress about taking it with 4 other courses, especially if they don't seem to require much work. Just keep up with your notes and ALWAYS go to class. You'll be fine.:) Oh and don't let people who failed the class discourage you!! There are people in every class in college who fail, not just a&p!!!

thanks for the on going encouragement everyone. it has helped me soooo much more than you know. i decided to only take 4 clases this semster instead of 5, just so i can focus a lot more on each individual class. if i'm lucky and don't fail anything i'll have all of my pre-req's done at the end of next summer and hopefully can get into the fall rn program. we'll see......:p

good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons:

I loved A&P. It's a tough class and you must stay on top of the material to do well. You cannot get by in A&P with just going to lecture and lab and not studying the material. If you're a highly motivated person who can stay focused, I say go for it and good luck! I took A&PI with one other class and then I took A&P II and micro along with 10 other hours. It can be done! Good luck!!

I really hated AP I! I have never taken a class that required as much time as it did. I am not good at rote memorization, so I spend endless hours pouring over flashcards learning bones, muscles and nerves. I ended up with an A, but I really, really worked for it. On the other hand, I really liked AP II. It isn't about memorizing 100's of items, instead you learn more about how body systems work, which I found really interesting. I also loved Micro. Good luck and buy lots of index cards!

Just taking a break to commiserate, I am so, so sick of muscle origin, insertion, nerve and action. I am wondering how my brain will hold all this stuff. Of course, I felt this way about every other test and this is the last one. This is just a step up in volume though. My instructor said A&P II is "better", meaning students tend to like it more. It's the study of the body systems. Good, bring it on. I've got a solid A going into this, thank goodness. I bet this is my lowest grade on this exam.
