I'm currently taking A&P I, and it is not going well. My professor doesn't teach us. She told us the first day that she wasn't going to. For the first test, we had to do everything on our own, and I got a 67 (the class average). We have another test on Monday...for this one, she went over the notes for the most part, but still, most of what we've done is on our own. I'm really worried about not being able to get a C (the required grade for progression). What can I do? Lab isn't much better because it's so much material! For Thursday (our first practical), we have to know the skull, the axial skeleton, and about 20 tissues...college is great EXCEPT for A&P. And what sucks more is that this professor apparently used to be really good. It's just that this semester she's trying a "new method."

I know it is probably too late but if a Professor told me that they were not going to teach a course that I paid good money for I would 1. Take it with another teacher if it is available and/or 2. Go to the Dean--tell them either move me to another teacher or give me my money back --I'll go to another college that has a teacher that teaches.
Stand up for yourself--don't pay this teachers salary--if she won't teach find someone who will. A&P is too hard not to have someone that gives you an excellent lecture to build your notes on.
There was no choice. I was pre-enrolled in A&P by the college. There is only one other professor, and we are not allowed to have her.

What do you mean your not allowed to have the other professor? Seriously if that's really the case I'd switch schools.
You might want to try to form study groups, that is what my class is doing because our professor is pretty bad.
We were put into a class and not allowed to switch.
And no way am I switching schools! I'm a freshman, and I love my school, and this, is a direct entry program, so unlike most people on this site, I will be able to progress into the nursing curriculum without having to apply because I already did and was conditionally accepted.
We have study groups, and I go, and they help a bit, but, I am not the type of person who can learn by reading so it is very difficult for me over all.
You need to find out how you do best study wise and stuff and just work at it then. Everyone learns differently you need to find what works for you.
I'm going back for a 2nd BS and I found what worked for me in the past doesn't work for me in my pre-req classes. For the first time I'm using and finding stuff like flash cards helpful!
Good luck!
I'm an auditory learner...so lecture is good for me. Too bad my prof doesn't really do that. I can't learn by just reading.
My professor lectures but manages to confuse us all, I can't listen to her because I walk out knowing less then when I walked in.
What does your prof do in class then?
Pretty much nothing. We go because we have to. Occasionally we do a case study, but she just expects us to know how to do it and doesn't really give us any help.
So you all sit in class all quiet for however long class is? I find that a bit hard to believe.
Have you tried going up to her during office hours? If she still won't help, does your school have a tutoring/learning center that can help you? Are you the only one having problems in your class?
No. Some people talk, some people Facebook, some people don't go to class.
I have tried talking to her and she doesn't really get it. Almost everyone is having problems. The average on the first test was a 67.
Wow, that's pretty bad.
Have a bunch of you gone to the department together? That would be my next step.
