Does anyone know any acronyms or cute sayings that can help someone remember the order in which blood flows through the heart and lungs?

1)Right Atrium

2)Vena Cava

3)Right Ventricle

4)Pulmonary Artery

5)Pulmonary Vein

6)Left Atrium

7)Left Ventricle

8)Aorta

9)Capillary Beds in Lungs

Well, you first need to get the order right:

It's vena cava to the Right Atrium, not the other way around. And capillary beds in the lungs come between Pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein.

Sorry, I don't have any acronyms... if you look at it enough, you'll eventually remember it. Good luck!

Well, you first need to get the order right:

It's vena cava to the Right Atrium, not the other way around. And capillary beds in the lungs come between Pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein.

The way I learned this was really just memorization but it helped to remember that all the oxygen poor blood from the body entered the heart on the right side...left side is systemic...dealing with oxygen rich blood. I guess what I am trying to say is that when blood enters the right artium then goes through the tricuapid valve it then must travel to the right ventricle. Keep your lefts and rights in order and together. I hope this helped you! :rolleyes:

I don't think there IS a good way to remember this. The only thing that I know is that is drove me nuts when I was in A&P. I agree with everyone else - just read it over and over, and draw and label diagrams and eventually it'll sink in.

Thanks for the tips!

My mom is studying for her Certified Fitness Trainer test that she'll take next month. I'm so excited for her. Growing up, she never stepped foot in a gym. For the past 3 years, she's been a trainer and instructor. Now, at almost 60, she's decided to make a bold move and get her certification.... however, she's having some struggles.

I don't think you should try to "memorize" it.....the way I learned it was to just learn how blood flows throughout the heart and main veins/arteries of the body.

Learn the structures of the heart and where everything is (especially valves and which side they are on) and then just picture the blood pumping through.

Blood flow through the heart/body is one of those things that I learned and have just never forgotten, once you learn in you wont forget it.
