Ok, a thread like this is inevitably started every semester and since I just got home from registering I thought I'd take the opportunity to start the thread for this coming Fall. Who's with me and what other classes will you be taking, if any. Aside from A & P 1 I'm taking sociology....
Good Luck everyone!!!!
having lecture and lab on the same day is pretty crazy! that's 4 hrs of information to take in, in one day!!! 12 hours of classes crammed into 2 days sounds pretty brutal! what other classes are you taking besides a&p i?!
[color=#ffa500]so, has anyone started a&pi yet?! i have been reading the 2nd chapter (chemistry), we will be going over it tomorrow in lecture! some of it i can understand reading it in the text, but then going back to it the next day i feel like i don't remember it anymore! it's just not sticking very well! hopefully when we go over it in lecture it will all come together better! my 1st test is on nov. 5th!!!! ahhh i only have 2 weeks left!

my other class is a nurse aide class that is required for the program at my school. from what i've been told, it only runs for about half of the quarter though, so it shouldn't be too bad.
yeah i took the nurse aide class last semester, it's pretty easy! all of it kinda goes along with a&p like the body systems, directional terms, medical terminology, ect! mine was a 3 month program but i've heard of some running for a month or even less! good luck!
thanks. i figured it was a good way to knock 6 credits off quick and easy since i'd have to take it sometime this year anyhow. i have to carry 12 credits every quarter to maintain full-time status...otherwise my financial aid gets reduced and i can't afford for that to happen.
ohh i totally understand about having to be full-time in order to get financial aid, alot of people have to do that! me unfortunately i somehow don't qualify for financial aid, so even though you have to take alot more credits at least you don't have to pay out of pocket for classes and books! believe me it's a pain! but yea that class is definately an easy way to get credits!

well, i know i'm fortunate to be eligible for the financial aid. i feel for those of you that have to work and pay for your schooling out of pocket. it totally amazes me how the students on my campus who are in that position manage to do both and still make good grades. i think it would just totally wear me out to where i couldn't focus properly on either the job or the classes.
yea it's really tough, i hate it! if i could afford it i wouldn't work and just focus on school! unfortunately i think this is one of those classes that requires 100% of your time in order to get the grade that you want! between school and work i barely have time to do anything! luckily i work more nights than days, so right after i get out of class i read/study up until the time that i have to get ready for work! this week i have probably studied a total of 15 or more hrs! my teacher said as long as you put in 2-3 hrs of study time in outside of class, you should do well! i'm shooting for an a cuz that's 12pts toward me getting into the nursing program! do yall have a point system at your college?!

i don't know if you would call it a point system, but certain people get preference for things like high act scores and gpa from previous course work at my school. my program is at a community college and i got accepted based on grades for course work from the associate's degree in social work that i just completed, becase i was on dean's list every quarter. i'm not dense enough to think that the rn program is going to be anywhere near as easy as that program was, and i've done a few extra things to prepare myself for the nursing program, such as taking a course they call "basic anatomy" in order to have a recent science refresher, plus a leg up for the a&p classes. study groups are a big thing in te nursing program at my school as well, so a bunch of us that are taking the fall a&p i class have already planned to have a study group together to help each other.
i've also been real fortunate in that my so has a job that pays enough that it isn't a necessity for me to try to hold down a full-time job plus the full-time classes. however, i'm planning on selling avon or something to try and make some of my own money...plus i tutor part-time on campus, although the tutoring is limited by campus policy to 20 hours a week maximum when i'm in classes.
good luck to you. it's been nice meeting you and posting with you.
ours is mostly goes by a point system, everything has points! like if i get an a in my a&p class i get 12pts, b is 8pts and c is 4 pts! all the other pre-req's have points to for the grade that you get, the most for all the others is 4pts for an a! also if you're already cna certified you get pts and if you've completed any other healh related certifications. we also have to take the teas test, no one has given me a clear answer as to wether or not that plays a factor in getting accepted or not! i'm thinking that it's one of those things they will look at if a few students have the same number of pts, so maybe that determines who gets senority! not really sure though! as of right now you have to have 60 or more pts to get accepted into the nursing program, which is really tough! you pretty much have to have an a in all your classes in order to get in! i have mostly's a's a like 2 b's! hopefully if i can pull off an a in my a&pi class that will boost it up more!
yea i would really like to form a small study group but with school and work it would be really hard to commit to that, so i'm just going to see what happens doing it by myself! if the 1st test goes well then i just won't worry about it! i'd rather come here on my own time, at my own convenience! ya know?!
that's good that you're so is making enough to support the both of yall! sounds like you've got yourself a good guy there! well it's been nice meeting you and talking to you also! good luck in your classes!
i'm also taking a&p1 right now. We just started this past monday, the 18th of august. So far, it's been okay. We have a super funny teacher that makes it easy to pay attention. We mostly laugh the whole class. There is a point sytem to get into the program at the school I'm attending also. Admittance is based solely on the points. I do think they talk to your teachers and see if you are "nurse material" or not. At least that is what our instructor said.
well i am glad that is finally someone in here who has started!!! the 1st chapter i have pretty much down pat, pretty easy! the 2nd chapter "the chemical level of organization" which is pretty much chemistry is giving me a lil' trouble! i never had a good chemistry background due to the fact that our chemistry teacher in hs didn't normally teach that subject, so we pretty much had to teach ourselves! have you read that chapter yet, or are yall even going over that chapter?! it's like when i read it i get it, but then when i come back to it i forget stuff! ugh, for some reason it's just not sticking!!!
we have a really good teacher also, who is very funny! she is also very good at explaining things on our level and giving us lots of examples to help us remember! she went over some of the chem today and i understood what she went over alot better, so hopefully when she's done explaining this chapter things will come together alot better!!!
hmmm i've never heard of them talking to your teacher to see if you are nursing material, but it is something to definately wonder and think about now that it's been brought to my attention!!!
