A&P 1, how detailed?

Published

Someone posted a helpful comment about learning the bones, muscles, and systems before even starting the A&P 1 class. How detailed does that need to be? For ex., on the getbodysmart site for humerus, anterior view, there are a. thru k. parts listed for that bone.

Thank you.

I would learn everything you can, you will need to know all the landmarks on the bones, which will help with learning the muscle OIAs...origins, insertions and actions. I know it seems like a lot but you can do it! What really helped me learn bone landmarks were the models in the lab so I would just familiarize yourself with them now and don't worry about really memorizing them now until you are in that section of class. Hope this helps and good luck! :D

I posted that original comment and I soooo stand by knowing all of that before you start. It seems like a lot at first, but it keeps getting easier the more times you do it. You could feasibly memorize all the bone stuff in 1 week and the muscles in another. The problem with most people in that class was that they waited til day one to rip the plastic off of their books. I strongly suggest getting the syllabus from someone who is in it now and really start doing most of what will be on the first test. Those memorizations will only be part of what you have to do, so imagine the jumpstart you'll have and the extra time for studying the lecture stuff!

btw....FLASHCARDS, FLASHCARDS AND MORE FLASHCARDS

Hi. Another great resource I used were the Anatomy and Physiology lectures via podcast by Dr. Cizadlo, on iTunes. Even if you don't have an iPod you can download iTunes for free and listen to the lectures.

In the beginning, I listened to the same lecture three, four, five times...until I absolutely understood it. On the lawn mower with hearing protection, in the car driving, while working out on my iPod.

Dr. Cizadlo is an amazing resource! (If you punch in his last name on iTunes, you can listen to podcasts of his lectures for other courses as well.)

Good luck!

There are only 7 anatomy lectures by Dr. Cizadlo on podcast right? im downloading them now and dont want to miss out on any

For those of you looking for Dr. Cizadlo's lectures, you should be able to find every lecture for the whole semester, for each course. There may be some setting in iTunes where you can view more than just the most recent podcasts.

If you're having trouble go to the St. Scholastica website (in MN).

Or PM me and I'll go figure out how the heck I did it in the first place (I'm currently at the wrong computer).

Happy studying!

They's just audio podcasts, but it's not hard to visualize what he's talking about.

And sorry to hear about your cash-flow dilemma...If I were rich I'd spot you tuition!!!

I'm taking A&P right now...a week into school we took our first practical on organizations of the body. Every week since this semester started, we've takin a lab practical. Unfortunately my COLLEGE is too cheap to buy things for us to dissect which really infuriates me considering we dissected a cat in HIGH SCHOOL!!!!

May I make a suggestion...and it's sad I'm learning the hard way. Do not, I repeat do NOT take microbiology and A&P 1 in the same semester, it is entirely too much work and although a lot of the information in the first few chapters correlate, I find myself getting confused as to what information is for which class.
