Hi everyone. I am currently taking AP1, lab, developmental psych, and philosophy. I have straight A's in all of them and have really good study skills. I don't work or have any other responsibilities that would get in the way of my studies. I do extra credit even if I don't need it(I get bored on my spare time so I might as well:specs:). I am saying all this in hopes that I get my point across and so that your opinion will help me out a bit more!(I promise I don't mean to brag!)
Well, on to the issue. The Dept of Health made my local NS change its pre-reqs so now we have to take college level math, too and MAYBEEEE in January we won't be allowed to apply for the program without having every class done. At this time we can apply and can be accepted even without Microbiology or psychology done. Well, my problem is that I have to take anatomy 2/lab, chemistry 2/lab, and microbiology(no lab) AND math to be able to apply BEFORE May 1st to be accepted for the fall term of the MDC program, if this rule will really come into action in January. The thing is, no one really knows for sure if it will come into action in January. The change with the math course being a new pre-req was sudden and immediate as well.
I would have taken microbiology and math in the summer, however with this change I am really unsure and a bit worried. Due to financial issues, I cannot currently go to another college for pre-reqs.
So, what do you think? What is your experience with this?
If I have to take this load, my schedule for Spring 2010 would be as follows:
Microbiology Monday 7:05pm-8:10pm
AP lab Tuesdays 8:00am-9:40am
AP lecture Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:50am-11:05am
Algebra Tuesdays 12:40pm-1:55pm
Chemistry Saturday 8:00am-10:30am
Chemistry lab Satursday 11:45am-1:25pm
I would also like to mention that my lab professor is extremely helpful/flexible and if I am in a jam, he will let me stay home and bring work later and stuff like that. Any opinions are super appreciated. I am going to my Nursing admissions adviser anyway tomorrow, so if you have any ideas of what I could ask her, please mention that also. Thank you!:loveya:

I think your schedule is doable. You have Monday, Wed, Thurs. afternoon, and Friday to study. I had done it with two science courses with labs, and one/two nonscience class(es). Just go for it.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. :-)

If you're capable of the dedication required to get good grades and you don't care about having a social life then go for it :)
Hm I think that if you do it O'Ryan, then make sure that elective doesn't include lots of reading/writing! My philosophy course has sooo much reading/writing. Luckily math isn't like that... I talked to my adviser today and she told me it is MURDER to have those three... sigh :| Maybe you could plan early what days and times you will study and stuff. But if chem is optional leave it for later... :s
Itsmejuli, I lost my social life a long time ago hahah

Go for it..I am the same kind of student as you and i did it last spring, it's doable...a little stressful at times, because there is always a last minute assignment that you have to get done... but I did it and got all A's. I also have 2 kids, and was working three days per week.
Wow, kudos to you risa426. That would look impossible to me. Congrats on your A's. :)

i'm not gonna be working next semester. well maybe 20 hours a week max!
so i'll have alot of free time.
My only worry is when there are multiple test or assignments due on the same day etc...
and i need A's.....
still debating this...maybe i wont take chem..i dont need it now but i really want to get it out of the way. Plus, i think an A in chemistry will help me getting into the nursing schools of my choice
Well, you could always take AP and chem and then microbiology later, right?? I think a lot of people do that since chem or ap tend to be pre-reqs for micro. And you could always do hw or study during your lunch breaks... I try to get as much classes in one day as possible to have whole days to study if needed...
i think you're right. Microbio is usally one of the courses you can get into nursing school without. However, the schools in my area are so competitive that i would like to take the course and get an A to improve my transcript. it would also take some weight off my shoulders.

Hi Ryan,
don't take 3 science courses with lab in one semester even though you don't any social life/work. They are all heavy loaded science classes. Take A&P1, Chem and one/two elective next semester; A&P 2, Micro and one/two elective in the following semester. Unlike "on eagle wings", her/his Micro class doesn't have lab and Math was pretty easy course.
