A&M Round Rock 2nd degree 2015

Published

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I want to start a thread for everyone applying to A&M Round Rock for Spring of 2015!

I got my fingerprinting done last week!!

Now we wait :)

Mine is on Wednesday. I just had it done at the same place a month ago for my EMT license. Too bad it couldn't be re-used. :-)

Hi folks. I took the HESI A2 today, so my application should be finished now!

I took A&P years ago, back in 2011, and was extremely worried that I wouldn't make the minimum 75% on that section. Thus, my entire application would have been chucked out. (I got a 76, so I'm happy ). The other sections brought me up, though. I ended up with an 89.6% cumulative. Hopefully that's not too low or anything like that.

Yay - another applicant! So far it's just been 2 of us. I was starting to wonder. We're just on pins and needles at this point waiting for October to get here. Good luck to you.

Congrats on your Hesi! That is really good!! So now you have submitted everything? such a good feeling. Are you taking classes in the fall? What is your Nursing Sciences GPA?

Meh. It's an OK score, but thank you nonetheless!

I was taking Pathophysiology through ACC this semester, but ended up dropping the course recently. I work two jobs at night-shift, and between those jobs and studying for the HESI I knew I wasn't going to keep up with the reading for Pathophysiology. Anyway, I may sign up for Pathophysiology again for the fall semester. It's good stuff!

I took Pharmacology several years ago in Houston and made an A in the course, but honestly I've forgotten a lot of it since I never really used it since then. I was planning on auditing the course through ACC this fall.

Granted, neither course is required as a pre-requisite, but I figured that if I had gotten some exposure before starting an RN program, it could only benefit me "getting" the material when I'm actually in the program.

The A&M HSC's website says that the Nursing Science GPA looks at the higher of two grades if I repeat a course. Naturally, I used it to turn a few Bs into As this spring (e.g., Microbiology, Nutrition). I think my prerequisite GPA should be around a 3.84. I have As in A&P II, Microbiology, Nutrition, Chem I, Human Growth and Development, Probability/Statistics, and Finite Mathematics. I kept my B in A&P I though.

Wow, that's a lot--working two jobs! Where do you work??

I work full time at a doctor's office and I have a little boy--which is definitely a full time job. I am taking physiology and microbiology during the fall semester ekkkkk

Oh, I can imagine it's a full-time job! I don't have kids, but I'm amazed at how a lot of people with kids make it through RN school. TONS of respect for those folks from me.

I'm full-time at Dell Children's and PRN at Heart Hospital of Austin. If I got into the program I'd have to quit one of the jobs and go part-time at the other job. As much as I'd love to not work and just do RN school, I know I have to work in order to cover rent and have health insurance during a program.

I re-took Microbiology online through ACC, but I had to go to lab at the Cypress Creek campus. Honestly, I really had to slog for that class. It was quite a bit of work. The lab practicals and lecture tests made me feel like I might as well have taken it in a classroom course setting anyway.

Back when I took Anatomy and Physiology in Houston, the courses were called "Anatomy and Physiology I" and "Anatomy and Physiology II". I didn't even know that ACC had entirely different names for these courses, though.

Yay - another applicant! So far it's just been 2 of us. I was starting to wonder. We're just on pins and needles at this point waiting for October to get here. Good luck to you.

Thank you! Good luck to you as well. I read that you are starting an EMT program, and I think that's going to be wonderful preparation for RN school. A friend and co-worker of mine used to be a paramedic, and he told me EMT/paramedic school was "mini-nursing school". I learn a lot of pharmacology and other cool stuff from him.

I actually recently finished the EMT program. I wanted to get some patient care experience and emergency care really interested me. I loved the class and learnwd an unbelievable amount. I will hopefully find a PRN job as a patient care tech soon so I can use what I learned. I'm coming from a 14-yr accounting career, so this is all new to me.

I received my blue card from my background check :)

did y'all get yours yet?
