Aurora healthcare= no more nurse anesthetists!

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Hi

I'm soon to be a nursing student in Milwaukee this fall. I called Aurora Sinai for shadowing experiences of a CRNA. The lady I talked to said that Sinai no longer "uses" nurse anesthetists, nor does St. Francis and another Aurora hospital in the area!

I'm confused :imbar so have these hospitals stopped doing surgeries or are they using AAs and anesthesiologists. I just don't understand how a hospital cannot have any nurse anesthetists. Can anyone fill me in?

St Francis is Covenant, and I don't know how, or if, Covenant utilizes CRNA's, if they do at all. I worked at St Joe's for five years and I don't recall there being any there. Lots of anesthesia residents, but no CRNA's. I know that Waukesha Memorial and Community Memorial did at one time. Give one of those a call.

Good Luck to you!

Thank you. I'm going to try those and also St. Joseph's. Someone in the CRNA forum suggested that I try LaCrosse.

It turned out that the hospitals I was calling only use anesthesiologists

All Saints in Racine uses CRNAs in L&D. Racine is not too far of a commute from Milwaukee.

I just looked at Aurora health care website and search openings for CRNA and they have their own clinic. Check it out, you couls probably shadow easily there... :lol2:

I work at Aurora Baycare Medical Center in Green Bay.....we use CRNA's. I contacted the Chief of Anesthesia by email and he was more than happy to have me shadow a CRNA whenever I wanted to. Starting pay is $130,000 according to one of the CRNA I spoke with last year.

I don't think that is true. They had CRNA positions on their site last week. Try St. Lukes if Sinai does not have any. You can always go to Waukesha Memorial Hospital also.

The OP posted this in May of 2004, so perhaps things have changed since then....
