WCU BSN program

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

hi everyone, i am interested in the West Coast University BSN program. i saw it was accredited by the board of registered nurses. i was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this university?

i am debating on going to community college route and having to wait on several lists and take alot of pre reqs

or

studying hard for the TEAS V exam, passing that and paying a high tuition fee for a BS in nursing from this private school WCU ( http://westcoastuniversity.edu )

I spoke with the admissions counselor a a UCLA and they said that they do take the BSN from WCU if you were interested in fast tracking your BSN and then moving to UCLA once you have been working a while. The more cons I look for about this school the pros I'm finding. I went to an I formation meeting at my local CC for their nursing program and they said it is a lottery type deal. I don't feel like taking 2 years of prequisite materials just to MAYBE get into the nursing program.

It's more like a mortgage than a car payment. My 45k loan is 450/month to be paid off in 15 years, plus interest accrues while you are in school and job hunting. it was originally around 35k and i deferred it for 2 years! I think for a program that expensive you'd be looking at 1500/month payments at minimum. Factor in rent and there's your entire check. In southern california i brought home about 1900/check as a new grad. It IS possible to pay it off if you are single and drive a crap car, and have no other bills, live with your parents. But I don't think the nursing salary unless you score a job in nor cal is going to really let you do much more than get by.

I'm single no kids and my car is almost payed off. "Getting by" is a lot better then what I'm doing now. I think the juice is worth the squeeze at this point. I was able to get funding outside of sallie Mae and have avoided their insanely high interest rates so really there is nothing holding me back now. I start in January and in 3 years and a couple months I'll be done with school

hi dreezy562. have you started at WCU? which location are you attending? i'm still waiting for my financial aid results. Im hoping I get to start next term.

Ya the next term starts in April. I'm at the Anaheim campus by Disneyland. My term starts January 26th. I only have class 2 days a week right now, but after the first classes it will increase I think. ?

From my experience most nurses laugh when they find out someone went to West Coast. The jokes usually revolve around the amount of loans your expected to have. That's just from first hand experience.
