Just applied to UT Arlington but just discovered WGU.

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I just happen to just get lost in the allnurses forums and read some good things about the RN-BSN program.

Correct me if I'm wrong: 1) 6months is a flat rate fee of 3500, 2.)there is this competency thing where it progresses at your pace, so if you work fast you get the BSN fast, and 3.)the grade system is just pass/not pass.

If I miss some more significant info, please inform me.

Right now, I just became a UTA student, I even got my degree plan and I have to take 6 prerequisite/general ED courses, and 11 BSN courses that are 5weeks in length. My estimation on to finish the program would be like 13-14months.

I haven't registered for any classes yet, because of financials, and hope for probably finding somewhere better.

So, now I'm interested in WGU. And I am considering taking the RN-BSN program with this school. I like the idea of finishing the program in less than 6months. I'm thinking I might be able to pull off the 6months thing since I don't have many commitments, im not married with kids or other stuff like that.

But I am not certain about some things.

Is WGU a legit university? Like how UTA.is, it has a base which is Arlington Texas. Because my first impression on this school is that it's a flyby school and it might not be as well respected by employers and other state universities and public colleges. And as for the grading system, how will it affect my GPA? I actually want to have a high GPA it's just something I just care about. I want to increase my GPA because when I did my ADN, nursing school was very tough and my beautiful GPA in pre-nursing became ugly when I did the nursing g program. So I just want to have a GPA redemption.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

WGU was founded in 1997 by 19 governors of various western states, so it is not a fly-by-night school. It is regionally accredited and all of its nursing programs are nationally accredited by the CCNE. is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and has five state institutional campuses in Washington, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, and Tennessee.

I completed WGU's online RN-to-BSN program three months ago and really enjoyed my experience with them.

So about the grade system, how does it affect the gpa?

If you could explain the grading system, I want to know how it works.

Thanks

The courses are graded on a pass/fail basis. A 'pass' equates to a 'B' letter grade, so your GPA will be a 3.0 (nothing more, nothing less).

What commuter said. And yes, you can complete your degree in one term IF you have the time and put in the effort to do so. It's an innovative school and not for everyone, but it was the best way for me to get my BSN. Liked it so much I went back and got an MBA! :)

My MSN got me accepted into two different DNP programs and a post-masters NP program (I am a current DNP student with a 3.9 GPA)

Unless you don't pass a class by the end of the term, then it won't be.

So your gpa after doing the msn in was 3.0? So you got accepted with just 3.0 gpa, and you're able to bring it up to 3.9 now that you're in a DNP program in another school?

I think she means her GPA in her current program is 3.9

Yes, my current GPA is 3.9 - your GPA does not follow you to ascending degrees.

I actually shudder to think what my GPA at is. I've failed a LOT of classes (3 in the BSN program, and 4 in the MSN, I think)

I have a stupid question, what do you mean?
