Yes, I agree! Its definitely nice having other people who are going through the same process. Dont doubt yourself! As long as you try your best, its honestly all that matters. I currently have a 3.98 with Honors. However, I still need to take A&P and microbio so that might drop haha. I am the vice president for PTK and a part of the Honors Leadership team. I have also participated in Conversation Pals which is basically learning about diversity and other cultures in student lead groups. As far as community involvement work goes, I tutored at a local library and packaged food at Northwest Harvest. For medical experience,I volunteer in Day Surg (roughly have 100 hours) and Telemetry (about 250 hours), CNA training (50 hours of clinicals), HIV/AIDS education and CPR/AED certification. I work part time but I dont have a child and I'm 18 so I definitely don't have as many responsibilities. Props to you! It must be hard juggling so many things.

Howdy ZrowGz!

Judging from the info session online and in person, it varies every year. They usually give you multiple scenarios and ask to pick one and explain why or give you patients and ask which one you'd treat first,second and last. Those are the only two scenarios I've heard about but I'm sure they interchange more than just two.

Wow, I have to say so myself! You have a pretty impressive background :) As far as the A&P and Micro, don't worry. I A's them! They are not as hard if you really keep up with you're reading. Plus, the material is really interesting! Microbiology has been my favorite science class so far.

You too have many things going on, which is excellent. The admissions committee wants to see that you can handle a big work load, and still be able to pass you're classes.

Hi All!

I am applying to UW's BSN program. I am a little nervous too as I don't have a CNA license but have been working closely with nurses in relating medical fields.

Currently I have over 10,000 hours of clinic work (direct patient contact) doing pediatric phlebotomy and cardiovascular research (perform ECG's, vascular ultrasounds, blood drawing, obtain medical history, council patients on lab results, communicate with their clinic nurses and M.D's, and perform full physicals. I have some (100 hours) volunteer work ranging from 1-5 years ago... I received my BA from UW four years ago (GPA 3.3) and did my pre-nursing in Boston (where I live now). I have a 3.9 in my pre-nursing classes (and worked FULL TIME!!!) and still have micro and stats to take this spring semester.

Again the closer January 15th gets the more nervous I get since every year they look for different students!

Welcome Court2889! I was beginning to think no more people were going to reply.

I don't think you should be so nervous about not having a CNA license. You have hands-on experience with patients, and most importantly you have experience working alongside nurses! I think that's all UW wants, applicants that KNOW what nurses do by watching them perform duties.

That's interesting, may I ask what BA degree you got? You also have great grades! You have a good chance of getting in for sure.

Ah I am super anxious and extremely nervous too. I don't think i'll be able to wait until March, It's going to kill me! We'll see :nailbiting:

I am applying to the BSN for the first time. It's definitely my first choice school, so I'm very nervous about it. I'm glad a 2015 thread was started...I'm always reading the previous years to see what happened with everyone. Good luck to everyone!

Hey guys!!! Just thought I would drop in for some good luck! I am a first year UW student and thought I would give you a little of my background. I applied to UW not not not expecting to get in, almost as joke (but obviously I put in TONS of time in to my application) my GPA is only a 3.2!! YUP only a 3.2!!!! At the time of my application I had worked as a CNA for 6 months in a nursing home, about 8 months at a hospital, and at the time I just got hired at a new hospital so I put that on my resume. For my volunteer hours I worked with a kids camp for abused and nelgected kids for about 5 years, and then was asked to be the director of a new mentor program where they pulled kids from the camp and we worked with them all year long. I was also a cheer coach so I could put that on my leadership area. I worked full time during school to pay my own way and I think they were able to see a could juggle a lot. I am also fluent in ASL so I could put that I am bilingual. Anywho!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!! They arent always looking for the best GPA, just somoene who knows what they are getting themselves in to!!! I will check back ocasionally if you guys have any questions I will do my best to answer!

Landij, you had an excellent application profile! I am really excited to start my nursing program, and even more nervous to get accepted at UW, I've heard great things about their program. I've been working on my application for months now, most of all my personal essay. Did you get asked to write the proctored essay? Also, how are you liking the program so far? :)

Hey guys, I am also looking into applying to the UW BSN program for 2015. Just wondering what my chances of getting into the program is…

I currently attend SPU, with a 3.98 GPA for pre-requisites.

My issue is that I only have a little over 100 hours of volunteer experience, and no other clinical work/volunteer experience nor certificates.

I also can't find a RN to write me a recommendation letter. The reason for that, is because I don't work at a specific floor/department at the hospital, and it is not clinical… I pretty much go around the patient rooms and provide them with reading materials, movies, and things to make their stay more comfortable and pleasant…

SPU is my first choice, but since UW is cheaper, I thought I might apply. What do you guys—former/current UW students & applicants—think of my chances into the program? Thanks!
