Seattle University BSN applicants 2012

U.S.A. Washington

Hi all,

I didn't see any threads for Seattle University, so I thought I would start one. What classes are you taking, current GPA, extracurriculars, etc? Any thoughts on the application process?

I guess I will start by saying that I am currently finishing 2 prerequisites. Currently my overall GPA is 3.3 and pre-req GPA is a 3.9. I'm starting a CNA program, so hopefully that goes well. My overall GPA is low, so I am worried about that.

I am SO nervous just thinking about it!!

hi, i just came across this site and read all the posts. I received my rejection letter today. I know I shouldnt be saying this and possibly it would make you think or feel l like i am being vicious and vindictive due to the rejection letter. But I have a high gpa, 3.8 with grades ranging from B'+ to A's, great experience working as a LPN-3 years and even got a great recommendation letter, and my essay was really good too. But they turned me down. I called them to ask the reason why and they said that it was due to the high volume of applicants, i.e. very competitive. I also know someone who applied the same time with a gpa of 3.4 and only 300 hours of voluntary and she got accepted. I couldnt help but wonder whether she got accepted because she was catholic and white? She told me that she talked alot about her religion and how it plays a part in her life. One of the things they asked for during the application process was proof of my English proficiency. When I told them that I was practically born here, they asked for my highschool transcript. They also asked for my proof of citizenship. This is the only school that has ever asked these from me. But I submitted all that. They then told me that my application is complete and waiting for reviewal. Then a rejection letter. I can only think that its because of my ethnicity and religion. Sorry I dont mean to vent, but I truely dont like to be unjustified.

I received my rejection letter today:( I am very dissapointed.. I was told that it was because I hadn't completed all of the pre-reqs. I only applied to 2 schools, SU and SPU, so I am really hoping I get off the waitlist at SPU.

Congrats to every one who got in. I was waitlisted as well. Feel so disappointed. I don't know how many people are in the waitlist. Maybe I won't get in this year

Hi ilu123, initially I felt the same way as you! I am a permanent resident, but they did not ask for my English proficiency partly, because I have straight A's in all my English courses and I've been here for awhile! I was thinking like gee, maybe it was, because I am from a different country and/or religion. It can't be from my grades since I had a 3.9 and I had relevant healthcare experience and a CNA license! In the end though, I truly believe that they were overwhelmed with applications and people like you and another person on this post JLoya just fell between the cracks (JLoya had an impressive resume too)! I will give them the benefit of the doubt! It does hurt at first, but you have to pick up the pieces and try again! There's other schools and I want to personally encourage you to be positive and stay motivated! I won't deny that I feel the same as you, but as future nurses we have to be able to face adversity and still keep a smile on our faces! :)

Hi Pleasant P. I was wondering about your rejection as well. You have a very high prereg gpa 3.9, how's about the overall GPA? You also have a CNA license. Do you have any volunteer experience? I think you should get acceptance or at least waitlist in stead of rejection. Feel so sorry to you and others. I understand your feeling. I have the same feeling as you guys. We need to stay motivated. Dont give up!

Congratulations to everyone who got in! I received an acceptance letter on Friday. I'm very excited and releived. I applied with all of the prerequisite classes completed (near 4.0 gpa) and I had previously completed an AA degree. My overall gpa is above a 3.5 so they offered me a $10,000 scholarship. My essay addressed my unique cultural background and touched on all of their essay requirements. I have no previous CNA experience or relevant volunteer experience. Again, congrats to all who were accepted. To those who were not, you should feel proud of your accomplishments thus far and try not to feel defeated.

Hi redbee, I haven't had a chance to look at your stats, what was your gpa etc? My overall gpa is a 3.6. I have a lot of credits and took a lot of advanced math classes like calculus that brought my gpa down! I don't think that should have affected my acceptance though! I did have a CNA license and over 1000 hours of relevant healthcare experience... I was surprised I was not even wait listed! I don't think they look over some of the applications! I saw some pretty good applications turned down! Overall I am not upset, I was just relating to the other post. I applied to UW and appreciate their holistic view on their applicants and I am very happy for those who got in. I am motivated :) and as long as we go through it together we will all be fine!n Thank heavens for these forums though, I'd be very sad without them!

Hi Pleasant P. My overall GPA is approximately 3.9, prereg GPA is 3.85. I have CNA license but have not used it. By the time I applied to SU, I had only 132 hours of experience at nursing home. That's all. Even thought I was waitlisted, I think I may not get in because so many applicants were in the waitlist who are more eligible than me, though!

Actually, you have a good chance! Seattle U selects a lot of the same people that will be admitted to UW (and other programs) as well and most will opt to go to UW. Also, I read another post where another girl who got accepted did not get enough scholarship and could not afford to go! Therefore, if you are waitlisted, I think you have a really good chance, especially since you are a strong applicant! I am rooting for you, where else did you apply?

Hi Pleasant P. I only applied to SU and SPU this year. SU is my first choice. I wish and pray I could get in this year. I read your thread and knew you also applied to UW. I wish you will get in UW.

Thank you and I wish you well at SPU! If you don't get in this year, keep your hopes up and get some more healthcare experience! It will only help you and you won't be as stressed once you are in the program. Good Luck!!!!

Just wanted to let you all know that I got in off the wait list for the APNI program and so a BSN slot will be opening up! I hope it goes to one of you!!! You all are very deserving of a space and it's tragic when highly qualified applicants aren't offered a spot due to the extreme competitiveness of these programs! Good luck everyone!!
