Mental health nurses and wound care. Need for training?
Hello all you psych/mental health nurses out there! I am a MSN-candidate student working on a proposed thesis/scholarly project and I am interested in your input! If I get a lot of feedback, I may try to set up an anonymous study if you would all be so kind to fill it out! What I am wondering is this: Do you find yourself doing much wound care as a psych nurse? BY "wound" I mean, pressure ulcers, self-harm, abscesses, lacerations, burns, foot ulcerations, etc. Have you done much training for wound care or has it been mostly from school or other nurses? Do you feel confident in your wound care skills? Do you wish you were trained more often/more thoroughly on wound care? Do you feel that psych care trumps physical care, like wound management, in most cases? There has been a lot of research published on this in the UK but nothing/very little that I can find in the US. You input is MUCH appreciated!

Seattle U APNI - 2010 Entry
Anyone still lurking around this board?? I'm starting the APNI program this June but also trying to plan a wedding! For those who are now in their last year, would you say that your first summer quarter (2010) or your second summer quarter (2011) was more intense? And when did you take the NCLEX?? Thanks!!

Seattle University BSN applicants 2012
Just wanted to let you all know that I got in off the wait list for the APNI program and so a BSN slot will be opening up! I hope it goes to one of you!!! You all are very deserving of a space and it's tragic when highly qualified applicants aren't offered a spot due to the extreme competitiveness of these programs! Good luck everyone!!

Wasn't expecting to hear anything so soon but I got in off the wait list today for the Community/Public Health track!

Seattle University BSN applicants 2012
Hey all! I got the acceptance letter for the BSN program this weekend! So stoked! I also applied to the their APNI Master's Program, which I got waitlisted for, so if I get in off the waitlist for that program, a spot will open up in the BSN program. misjohnson, I am not sure how the waitlist works for the BSN program, but for the SU APNI (Masters) program, the only info I could get from Seattle U was that the waitlist was "short" and when a spot opens, they re-evaluate the applicants and decide who to offer it too. Sorry I don't have any more info than that!

No email for me either. Looks like I am waitlisted. Hopefully not too far down the list. I am definitely feeling that "epic sadness" because I think I was a great candidate and Seattle U is exactly in line with my goals and missions, like you said LeahCheers and Pooja. I think I blew it at the interview. Super disappointing... Calinca, I have a good feeling for you and hope that we both make it off the waitlist! Along with everyone else waitlisted! They don't know what they'll be missing otherwise! Sassafras, was your email personalized or a mass email to all Community/Public Health applicants who were accepted? I think you and I are the only Community/Public Health People on the forum ( at least that have posted anything!) And now I have to study and take a test tonight. Yeah. That's going to go real well.

Seattle U - APNI 2012
Called Graduate Admissions this morning and they said that we should all hear by the end of next week as all decisions are being mailed out over the course of this week. I think we have heard this from other posters too, just wanted to give the most recent update. She also said the mailing is based more on the Nursing Department sending them decisions than on speecific specialties. Still obsessively checking the mail!

My status has also changed to "Decision will be mailed as soon as possible." Calinca, I agree that it is too hard to tell if these statuses mean anything regarding acceptance, denial or waitlist status based on last year's thread. I am applying to the Public Health track, and I think I may be the only one on here for this track, so we shall see... Obsessive mail checking has officially begun! I love how supportive everyone on this site has been! I truly hope we are all part of the 2012 cohort because I think we would all make an amazing cohort! Positive vibes for all of us and post as soon as you hear! I have all resorted to the coping mechanism of "Well, that saved my $100,000+" if I don't get in! Positve thoughts. Positive thoughts.:) Ekkk! Feeling more like:confused: The wait is killing me! So much for focusing on my last week of class!

Seattle U - APNI 2012
Haven't chimed in for awhile. Just wanted to say again how supportive this thread has been and I REAALLY hope we are all the ones who get accepted and can chat face to face as APNI students. It is so hard not to be tough on ourselves. Like almost everyone here there are things I wished I'd said, things I had good examples for but didn't give etc etc. Overall, I still find comfort in that corny saying "If it is meant to happen it will happen." Fingers crossed for everyone! We can take solace in the fact that we were competitive enough to get an interview, and just hope for the best! Good luck everyone! Hopefully we start getting answers sooN! I have to decide whether or not to renew my lease and a lot of it rides on whether or not I get in! Bleh...timing has been rough this year.

Seattle U - APNI 2012
Hello all! Had my interview Friday for the ACPH track, it was nerve racking and it's so hard to tell how you're doing! I guess that it is pretty standard for interviewers not to give you any clues on how it's going, but it's so hard not to take it personal! My track is the only non-NP track, and I think they are very sensitive to the idea that people understand the ACPH track, and I got the vibe that they thought I didn't understand the track even though I absolutely think I do! I got tongue tied and kept saying the same things (blehh!) and also had trouble with the conflict question! I think they are looking for an example of when you had a conflict, resolved it, and continued to work with that person/people in a productive, professional way. I'm glad it's over but wish I could do it again :/

About to interview for a APHN-BC program. TIPS?
Hello all! I am an aspiring PHN in WA and I am so thrilled/nervous to have an interview for a Entry Level Masters Program at Seattle University this coming Saturday. This program is for applicants with a non-nursing Bachelor Degree (mine was a double major in Neurobiology and Psychology) to first become an RN (after 1 1/2 years), and then finish up a Masters in a specialty area the following year and a half. The track I am applying to is focused on Community and Public Health Nursing with an emphasis on leadership, and I would be graduating with a MSN and could sit for APHN-BC licensure at the end of the program. I REALLY want to get into this program and I have been researching PHN positions and career paths, but I am still scared of going into this interview sounding like I do not really grasp what a PHN nurse does because there seems to be so much variety! My background is in research and, ideally, I would LOVE to be a Research Nurse, involved in studies that target infection control, prevention, and a more efficient and effective transition of evidence-based practices from the bench side (research world) to the bedside, especially for under-served populations. Does this seem like a realistic goal? So, I would love to get a little background/info on where all you PHN currently work, what projects you work on etc. and any tips/info/suggestions you all have for my interview! Thanks in advance! I cannot wait to join the PHN world!
