Seattle University -- APNI 2011

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I've been a reader of these message boards for some time and thought I'd finally start participating. I didn't see a thread for the SU APNI 2011 application process, so I thought that as the deadline is this week I would start a thread and see how everyone's process went. I'm interested in the primary care np track myself.

Congrats mef06011 and junipers!

Does that mean I got rejected? :-(. I didn't get an invite for the interview yet but the application status thing on their website says that my admission decision has been mailed...

does any of yours say that? Thanks!

I'm thrilled to say that I was also offered an interview for the ANPI CNM track! Congrats to everyone else who has gotten good news! I'm looking into flights from the Bay Area and they don't look to bad. I'd love to get the chance to check out Seattle, the campus, and learn more about the school/program.

I definitely wouldn't jump to any conclusions. From what I've read from previous years interview invites tend to go out over several days, and each specialty works differently, so don't lose hope yet!

Thank you mef06011! The application status website is just throwing me off and making me panic. I hope I hear from them soon! Good luck on your interview!

Congrats to those who've received invites. Seattle U has a really fantastic program, and it's a true treat to have gotten one step closer to acceptance!

I'm in your same boat, hlu5. I haven't received an invite, and the website says a decision has been mailed to me. Starting to sweat a little over here...

Out of curiosity, for those who have received invites, what does your online application status read? I'm nervous that mine implies a decision has already been made. I hope I'm just reading too far into it.

Oh dear, I know. I've been looking up past seattle U APNI threads for the past hour and a half and can't find anything about it. I got notification of an interview with Western University today but this whole Application status thing with Seattle U is freaking me out. Hopefully we get that email soon!

Congratulation to all those recently offered an interview. For those that have been offered an interview, what track did you apply to? I'm getting so nervous because I have yet to receive an email!! Is this a bad sign??

Congrats to those who have already recieved invites! I think the invites must be given out at various times for various specialties. I opted for the AGNP myself, and it seems like most invites have been for the CNM so far. I'm anxious to hear how it goes for everyone!

Oh, and MSW530, does your username have something to do with your initials or are you an MSW (Master of Social Work)? If so, you aren't alone! I got my MSW in 2008.

You are right, so far it seems like the invitations are for CNM. Hopefully the rest of us will hear back soon! Flaneur--Yes I am also a Master Social Work, graduated in 2010. I am glad to know that there is a fellow MSW on here. If you don't mind me asking, what helped you to decide to switch to nursing?

For me, the desire to go into nursing is more to expand what I currently do. I work in community mental health with very at-risk people who have a range of psychiatric and medical issues. It was always my plan to seek a degree in nursing to become a nurse practitioner (even before I got my MSW), but then I thought I wanted to only focus on psychiatric/mental health. However, after being in my career for three years, I found that my biggest interest was in helping people both with their mental health needs and medical needs. I spend a lot of time in my job helping people go to see their PCP and helping them follow the treatment recommendations once they are back in the community. So, my hope is to gain a strong background in nursing and preventative health care and focus my practice on people who are at risk, have multiple health and mental health diagnoses, and partner with their mental health providers for more cohesive care.

Eventually, if this plan works out, I'd be interested in furthering my education by going through a DNP program -- possibly in psychiatric/mental-health. I'd love to be able to do both health and mental health care for people who are at the highest risk and often have barriers to receiving care.

What about you? What has helped you make the decision to seek out a nursing education?

oh, and i checked the "application status" website just now and it looks like some applications are still under review (mine is). perhaps different specialties are at different points in offering interviews. i, just like everyone else, am eager for any information or news, but i guess it's best to wait it out as patiently as possible. haha. besides, i guess we weren't expecting any news until next week anyway, so there's still plenty of time.

Flaneur and MSW530 -

What made you decide to do the MSN programs as apposed to just the ADN or BSN programs? I am trying to decide this and have been getting all kinds of conflicting information. I too have a Masters but mine is in psychology with a concentration in mental health counseling, also having worked with the chronically mentally ill for the past 3 years.

I am worried about going to the direct entry program and not having the bedside RN experience and not being able to get a job as a bedside RN because I am seen as over qualified with the MSN but under qualified for an advanced practice position.

Hope you both here back soon, I didn’t even really think about the direct entry programs as an option until after the deadlines had passed so I won’t be applying until later this year, if I chose that route.
