Riverside School of Health Careers RN program

U.S.A. Virginia

Hello everyone!

I am looking for current, past, and even prospective students for Riverside's RN program. I will be applying for the September 2013 professional nursing program. For current or past students, what was your GPA and teas score? Also how was the program, instructors, clinicals? I did attend the last open house in December and I was hoping that a student or recent grad would be there to talk about their experience. I love how the instructors seem to be really supportive and the small campus also appealed to me. To other prospective students what start date are you applying to and do you have any other nursing/healthcare experience? Any advice or other information on the program is greatly appreciated!

Me too! The physical will be 65 :-(. And I'm going to have a titer drawn for Varicella.

Dang! Luckily my dad was military so my insurance should cover a lot of it. If you've had chicken pox before you should be fine right?

Yeah, that's what people are telling me. I googled it too (I know, not all that credible, lol) and an old post from here came up and one girl had chicken pox and her titer results were still negative. But my little sis was saying it is required before you start college. And I remember having my blood drawn when I first moved to NC in 04 at my first college. However, the last time I was a student there was 08 so I doubt they still have record of it. I'm surely calling tomorrow morning to make sure!

I think it took about 4 business days. I had it drawn at the Naval hospital, does Riverside offer any reduced priced immunizations/titer through their system?

If they do, no one told us. I know the nurse that I spoke with yesterday said that Riverside does discounted immunizations/titers for employees but she is not sure about students.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!!!! I was accepted as well! I am going up there Friday to turn in my paperwork since that is the last day, and meet with financial aid. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as physicals and immunizations go?? I should get more information on Friday, but it will be nice to know what to expect a head of time.

Congrats to you too! I would say make a doctors appointment ASAP because the immunizations are due on July 23rd and if you are CPR certified already bring your card with you, if not set yourself up for a class. :)

Oh okay thank you! Yeah, I have my CPR certification. I just need to get my immunizations. What are the specific immunizations we need? I should be up to date on most of them because growing up a lot of the school systems required immunizations. Also, do we need to have a present physical along with the necessary immunizations?? Sorry for all the questions..

Congrats to you as well. Your fine with the questions, we have had plenty along the way! As far as the immunizations are concerned, we have to have MMR (twice) Td/Tdap (if it has been 10 yrs or longer since your last Tetorifice or Tdap shot then you'll need another 1), 2 step TB assessment (each assessment has to be at least a week apart), Varicella (twice) Hep B is optional but if you haven't had the series and decide on not getting it, you'll have to sign a declination form.

The physical form is a check-off of the essential program requirements (that list we checked off on in the application packet, stating we can push at least 100lbs, etc) that needs to be completed by a health care provider. And back to the immunizations, you can also have titers drawn instead of getting the vaccine (if any vaccines are needed).

Time to hit the gym!

Thank you for all the information !! I think I am up to date on most of them except for the TB assessment. I just need to get a physical.

If you've had the vaccines for some of the things before do you need the titers drawn?
