NVCC Accelerated Classes/Semesters

U.S.A. Virginia

I just wanted to know if anyone preferably NVCC nursing students can let me know what classes are taken during what semesters?

For example NUR 111 summer/fall etc.?? I'm hoping to apply for the accelerated program in 2010. Also is their a GPA cut off or preference and how many slots are available for both the accelerated & traditional program?? Thanks:D

It depends on when the program starts...if the accelerated program starts in the fall semester, then you go four consecutive semesters (including summers)...so it would go fall, spring, summer, fall.

Right, and keep in mind that summer is shorter than the Fall and Spring terms. I think the accelerated program is great and I wanted to do it but missed out on it. I think my friend who is in the accelerated program has to go to clinicals twice a week during the summer to compensate for the 4 weeks lost.

So, you are starting the traditional program this fall?

I had started out interested in the accelerated online, but now I'm leaning toward accelerated in-person...thinking I want as many people there to help as possible! :) But again, for me...that is quite a while off!

Yes, we start August 24th. I too wanted to do the online accelerated program but now I am happy that things didn't work out the way I wanted them to. God had a much better plan for my family, which was moving out of my mom's living room and into our very first house! Everything always seems to work out. I too would have rather wanted to do in-person accelerated program, which is what my friend is doing. She seems to be doing just fine and graduates in December. She even has time to be involved in our MOMs group.

My own mom will be retiring from nursing in February, and I think she is still in shock over my decision! ;) I keep telling her that I'm only *just* starting my prerequisites...she is very supportive, but I also think a bit worried, as I kind of hit her out of nowhere with all of this!

I start my online class the week of Aug. 24, and I'm taking SDV 101 the second 8 weeks of this semester. I'm actually really excited, though I'm amazed by how much more books cost than they did 15 years ago!

Well if you haven't found out already nursing school is a huge financial investment. It seems like we will have to shell out money for stuff throughout the entire program. I am sure it won't compare to the past month or so but it said something in our handbook about paying for parking at various clinical sites and stuff like that. Our books were almost $1,000, the uniform plus shoes will run you about $200, plus your lab kit, nurse kit, etc, etc. Just make sure you save your money because it'll run your bank account dry before you ever start class! Going into the Air Force was one of the best decisions of my life because if it weren't for that I probably would never have been able to afford school.

Oh, I know...that is one of the reasons that I'm spreading my pre-reqs out so much. Save, save, save. I'm even considering axing my cable!!!

I am planning, for the time that I will be in nursing school, to get financial aid, too. I just don't want to do it until the 'last minute' as I already have school loans (but they will be deferred when I go back to school full time).

GI bill for you? Good for you! I was *thisclose* to joining the Navy out of grad school, and I still wonder if not doing that was a mistake.

NAVY= NEVER Again Volunteer Yourself, lol!! Did 15 yrs in the Canadian Armed Forces, Army, Navy and Air Force!! Go Air Force, lol Actually had a great time in all 3 branches.

To save $$$ on parking, some students parked out on streets by the houses, a short walk into the campus. One can borrow some of the books from the campus library, and check out ur local libraries as well. You will find that most of them are pretty much worthless!! Some of the bigger text books, one can get some $$ $back!

There are also a handful of sites where you can 'rent' textbooks for the semester. I just did a google search and came across chegg.com, collegebookrenter.com, and campusbookrentals.com just to name a few. I for one like to keep my books on the off chance I'll use them again, which of course never happens :wink2:

There really is only 3 or 4 books that one requires for the program, and you will use most of those the whole program!
