It's me again lol, I am looking into training to become a CNA thru a nursing home near me, so I can get some experience and also make atleast a little bit of money while Im going to college so I can survive. Are any of you or were any of you CNA's before pursing your LPN or RN programs? Would you recommend becoming a CNA first? I would like to get into the medical field as fast as possible. I am also going to become a (CPT) certified phlebotomist technician thru the community college before I start taking my pre-reqs for the RN program they offer.

Hey Amber,

I am a CNA and I know for a fact we will make a better nurse for it someday! Most nurses I have worked with said that the nurses that were CNA's first have more patience with their patients. Most states now are starting to require that you become a CNA before you can be accepted into a nursing program.

I just want to know if a foreigner (asian) can go to US and inorder to be a CNA.What are the pre-requisit or am I allowed to study there? Can you tell me information how to start and how much is the tuition or expences.Do you know any that offers on the job training? Thanks hope you can tell me.

I was a CNA before i went to school to become a RN. I think it was very helpful. esp. b/c you learn how to interact with people and there families. ( I was shy when i first started)

You can become a CNA very easily. I know many nursing homes will pay you to attend classes to become certified.

hope this helps

I was a PCT (CNA) while I was in nursing school. I have graduated and now started working as an RN in the same hospital. I felt it helped me a lot with getting comfortable with providing care for patients, types of conditions, etc.

In my area, many LPN and RN programs require you to take the course either with your program or as a prerequisite. Mine LPN program had it integrated into the course of study but some don't.

I've not worked as a CNA as I didn't work during school but I know quite a few people who do. I'm sure it could make you an even better nurse......it certainly couldn't hurt....

Good luck!

I also worked as a CNA while going through school. I felt that it helped immeasurably. I definitely encourage this. It also gets you comfortable with working with patients and gives you a world of confidence.

I am not in school yet I have an admissions appt tomorrow I am trying to see what the best method to become an rn is I was told to take a cma course but just because it would allow me to make money quicker seeS I'm laid off but just found out from hospital that cma is for dr office not hospital and that if I want to be an rn to first do a cna anyone have any advice also I have no clue what a cna or cma or rn make can anyone help?

Thanks. By the way I am from MD near Baltimore if it helps with answering my questions

Thanks for the reply I saw a lot of cma jobs at the hospitals can you confirm I understand this correctly, hospitals just have more cna jobs as opposed to cma but there are still cma jobs in the hospital is this correct
