no, i live here in mclean, va

For those waiting, it will most likely depend on where you reside. Considering the GPA alone, each of you ranks a bit higher than others who have been accepted in the past and in the present. Good luck, and I hope each of you the very best!

From what I recall, there were 150+ applicants for this upcoming Fall 2011 session, at least for the Traditional program. I also believe there are 144 seats available, but adjustments can be made to accept more students. I might be mistaken on what I add next, but there is no actual waiting list for the college. If anything, I suppose you could call the seats from people who decline the offer for personal reasons a waiting list. Just a side note: Momentum 2+1 had less than 50 applicants when I asked early in May, but there is a high chance it has increased due to graduating high school students or other applicants.

Immunizations are the usual set, consisting of:

MMR

Varicella

Hepatitis B

Diphtheria and Tetorifice

Tuberculosis Skin Test (If positive, get a chest x-ray done and be read negative.)

A typical drug test can be read in two days time or so, but the background check might take a little longer. CPR classes are long periods of time, but it is quite basic. You just need a good attention span to last 5-6 hours.

I think i am feeling much better now, regarding of what you said. Perhaps I still can get in. Please, God, help me and to others who are still waiting. Are you sure there are only 150 applicants and are you sore that there are 140 seats? If so, I think i still have a chance on getting the approval letter tomorrow.

First off, congratulations! :yeah:

BIO141 & BIO142

The only prerequisite required is ENG111. You do not need a year of chemistry (CHM111 & CHM112) as it is reserved for BIO205. You also need two of either: BIO 101, 102, 110, 120, 141, or 142 for BIO205.

Drug Test/Background Check Information

While it is technically not attached, the information should be available on Blackboard at a later date. The organization tab will cover a good portion of the questions being asked, but I do understand the confusion as the letter does state: "Directions for ordering the background check and drug screening test are attached."

Class Browse/Catalog

There is a way to check for classes this upcoming Fall 2011. These classes should be, for the most part, final in terms of dates and times. All courses last from August 22, 2011 to December 19, 2011.

NUR111 (Lecture)

Monday 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

NUR111 (Lab)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday

(1) 8:00 am - 11:00 am

(2) 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

(3) 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

NUR150

Monday 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Tuesday 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Thursday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Friday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Unfortunately, I cannot help with the clinical as they are chosen by the professors teaching the courses. For what it seems, however, they are: Tuesday or Wednesday, ranging from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm or 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

If you would like to check it for yourself, it is located on SIS. Just make sure you search for Fall 2011 classes, not Summer 2011. As covered in the letter, these classes will not be available for sign-up until August 18 at 10 am, so be ready at that time to get the one you like. Have a back-up as well just in case you are too late to add it.

Hope this helps ease the search and congratulations once more!

I realize it's a pre-req for Bio 205 not A&P I and II. It's still daunting (to me) to have to take one year of chemistry before I can take micro.

I think i am feeling much better now, regarding of what you said. Perhaps I still can get in. Please, God, help me and to others who are still waiting. 150 applicants doesn't sound right to me... I can tell you, based on the sheer number of people that were in the MEC testing center on the last day, that that number is highly unlikely. The line to take the TEAS was out the door and around the corner, and they had people taking numbers. My friend was number 75, and there were a bunch of people after her. She estimated there were close to 100 people taking the test that day. Since a lot of us seem to be "type A", I'm sure a good number didn't wait until the last day to take it. I wonder if the actual number will be disclosed at orientation... As far as no waitlist, I'm wondering how they fill the slots of all the people that 1) fail the background check/drug screening, and 2) applied to the hybrid program and the traditional, and are declining their traditional slot. They must have some method of filling the seats, because I can promise you they don't let them remain empty ($$$!)

Regardless, don't lose hope! We are all just speculating at this point, and have no idea what the process is. I HOPE you hear something today! I have my fingers crossed for you!!! :heartbeat Let us know when you do! Good luck!!!

Just got my letter saying the class is now full. And I will not be apart of that class. Guess I will have to try next year!

Congrats Ladies!

Oh no! I'm so sorry! My friend got bad news as well... Hopefully, they've told you what you can do for next year to make yourself more competitive, and you can start chipping away at your corequisites. Don't give up on your dream! This little bump in the road will make you that much stronger in the end, and you'll go into the nursing program well prepared and be successful. Good luck in your future endeavors! :heartbeat

thanks to all for the words of encouragement. I did not receive an email from Mrs V today, which is concerning. However, no matter what happens, I'm focused on doing what I need to do to get accepted, even if it takes another year.

Should I repeat courses to raise my GPA?

I had pretty good TEAS scores (90s) and a good GPA in my other pre reqs (3.5). Anyone who has been in my shoes, feel free to chime in.

I know that NVCC is a great program and I'm really happy for those got in.

Not giving up yet!!

I did not get in last year so I retook some classes to raise my GPA and took some more co-requisites and got in this year. Do not give up!!!!

I did the same as PrincessGooseyBear. To make myself more competitive this time around, I retook classes to raise my GPA and finished up my Associates degree in General Studies. Keep trying and you will get in!

still waiting, Idk why you havent gotten your letter we basically have the same stats..... when you say overall 80 on the teas do u mean each score was an 80?

Sorry :crying2: I have a friend who didn't get in either.

I would guess that the scores on the TEAS must be ranked slightly higher in importance to the admissions committee... My cummulative GPA was only 3.255...But my TEAS average was 94.3% (and my prereq GPA was 4.0)... If you still have TEAS attempts left, I would study for that, and try to raise your prereq GPA as much as you can!

Don't give up!!!

Congrats to those that got in. I graduated back in May 2009 form the program and recently have gotten a few people PM'ing me for advice. I have not kept in touch with anyone from the school, and I know the program has gone through a fair bit of change, so here is my 2 cents:

1) yes their can be a lot of reading--READ IT ALL!!!! As well pay attention to the "tables" "boxes" "figures" within the reading, lot of good tid bits in their and some of them summarize what the topic is about!! We were able to download the Power Point for that lecture, it was good, as you could follow along and make notes. BUT not all the info is on the power point presentation! Yes some did pass with mainly studying those, but everyone is different!! DO THE READING!!!!

2) READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! Especially for the dosage exams--they tell you how they want you to round off!!

3) Read the WHOLE question!! Understand what they are asking!! That goes for the theory and the dosage exams!! They love to throw in EXTRA info that you do NOT require! They want to ensure you understand the question! A classic example of that is that a question was like set the IV pump to 20 cc an hour, but they threw in a whole bunch more info, but as you know 1 cc = 1ml!! so the answer was 20ml/hr!! that simple, but students had all these funky calculations worked out,lol

4) Know your conversations!!! The dosage exams are not difficult if you STUDY!!!!! mcg to mg to grams, etc, etc. You will see, as they will teach it, so pay attention and study!!! and watch how you use zeroes!!!! 0.75 is correct, 0.750 is wrong!!! They will go over that too!! READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!

5) Its NOT a race!!! Double/Triple check ur work!! Yes they say quite often your 1st answer is correct! BUT read over the question! I recall 1 dosage exam, 1 gal was out in like 10 min (think we had 50 or 50 min to do it) I was like holy crap, she was fast! Guess what--she failed! (passed rewrite) She must have made stupid mistakes and didn't double check her work!!!

6) Double checking your work, isn't just going over ur calculations--It is going over and reading the whole question OVER!!! Sure your calculations that you jotted down may be correct, but maybe you misunderstood the questing, OR very simply jotted down the wrong #, so of course it will be wrong!! So go over the whole questiuon!!

7) Sometimes a question further on in the exam, can relate to an earlier question!

8)Did I mention do all the reading and read the instructions and the whole question???

9) And yes people do get dropped from failing the drug dosage exams! Maybe it has changed (prob not) but you only get 1 rewrite, fail that and good bye! And yes doesn't matter if its the last semester, happened in my class.

10) If they offer it--take it----Preceptorship!! For us--during the last semester one could attempt to get on a Preceptorship--where you work one on one with an RN. You learn a LOT!!! Soo much more than your normal clinical! And if they like you, maybe they offer you a job. That is how I got mine! Usually they don't have enough spots if every student wanted to it, but not all can, as some have jobs, kids, etc It is a very valuable tool!!!

11) Clinical sign ups??? When I did mine, the highly sought after instructors went in seconds, and I mean seconds!! So have many back up plans at the ready!! When they say it opens at A day at 10 am, be ready!! As soon as the secretary opens it up, they go quickly!!!! If you have multiple computers at your disposal, you have an advantage!! For us, the 1st semester was already picked out for us, but after that, it was wide open!!!! So be prepared!! If you have any over due books, guess what, you can't sign up for classes!!!! If your out of status, guess what, you can't sign up!! I had not updated my Green card status, so guess what, yep, could not sign up!! Luckily I was at the MEC and was soon able to rectify it, and luckily able to get an ok assignment, lol!

12) Memorization helps, but understand whats the topic is about! I imagine the exams are still multiple guess, but they are not simple multiple guess!! if you understand the topic, you will be well prepared!!

13) the Nclex prep books, like from Saunders can be a very good tool!!

I think we lost the majority of the students in the 1st semester. People were not used to studying, or they thought, multiple guess, how hard can it be?? So in closing, do all the reading, read the WHOLE question and understand what they are asking! And go over ur work!! For the theory exams, you may have wanted to answer "C", but circled in "B"!! oops!! For the dosage exams, ensure ur using the correct units, rounded off as the instructions asked for!

It can be a hard course, but its no where impossible. During clinical, get in their and get ur hands dirty!! Best of luck!!

Thanks Flames your advice is FOR SURE needed and will be taken into full effect once we begin this program!!!!!!!!!!! :D
