UTA NURS 5327

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I am in week 4 of my first online MSN class at UTA. My concept paper was turned in 2 days ago. I am sweating bullets thinking that I may fail this class with a grade of 82. That's right, C is the new F when you enter the graduate program.

It is a lot of pressure and I hope that my posts throughout my journey will help others who come along after me.

My advice so far:

1. STUDY and READ everything for that first open book quiz. There are only a few questions and you will fret over each one.

2. Post your best to the discussion board. They really do read each one and will reduce your score if you are not quite grasping the class concepts.

3. Get ahead and stay ahead.

4. Do not get behind.

5. Read the rubric and be sure to include each element in your papers and presentations.

I will update as time goes by. Thanks and good luck to everyone else in the program now and in the future.

The way the brick and mortar MSN works, a C in a didactic class is technically passing. It's an 83% minimum for a clinical class.

If you drop below a 3.0 at any time, you are on probation for the next semester. Bring it up or you are out of the program.

You can't graduate with less than a 3.0.

The graduate program at UTA sounds like a nightmare!! I will not be applying to their graduate program... are you all in the nurse practitioner program? I think I will apply to the University of Vermont in a couple of years. Good luck to you all. This was helpful to read. I feel bad for you guys! Hang in there :)

Skimtnrn, I am very much enjoying the UTA MSN NP program - but it is a lot of work.

Everyone else, with regard to your SA reports - make sure you're NOT attaching the title page or the reference list to what you're running through - it will make your numbers artificially high.

Then go through the document and read the highlighted parts; you may find that it is a phrase like: 'antibiotics fight bacteria in multiple ways' ... well, how many different ways can you say that?

Also, if you are having trouble writing something in your own words - you can read the paragraph and make an outline of ideas - then turn the paragraph over and rewrite the ideas in your own words. You will usually capture the same idea but in your own vernacular, thus (as long as you cite your source of information) avoiding plagiarism.

I will be happy as can be to get a B in 5301 research and move on. I do not understand how they grade, but then again I did not understand the grading system in the undergrad research class. My heart goes out to those who made a C in theory and now are contending with this research class. I am completely lost especially with the statistics portion of the class. I did great in undergrad stats, but the way they present statistics in 5301 is not that great.

It is extremely difficult to work full-time and progress through this program. I went from 12 hour days to 12 hour nights and then to 5 days a week full-time. This 5 days a week full-time is really making it difficult to study. I took a role as a supervisor so that I would have some experience under my belt with the hopes of parlaying the supervisor experience with this MSN degree into a management position. I think everyone out there should think long and hard before they put all of the time, money, and effort into obtaining a degree in order to take a job that essentially comes with a pay cut.

Good Luck to all

So, last week of 5301 and I have to say that Graduate Level Research is just as horrible as undergraduate research. Just hoping that I can pull through this class without getting a C. My advice to everyone taking this class is that you have to devote every waking moment outside of work to studying if you want to make an A. Probably 25-30 hours per week minimum to make a B. There is way too much required reading in this course.

Failed the Statistics test in UTA 5301. My mind just went blank. Now hoping to make a high B on the final paper in order to get through this class by the skin of my teeth. This research class is no joke.

3.94 GPA Summa Cum Laude BSN, A's on every paper before this class.

Praying for everyone who made a C in theory to at least get a B in this class (I made an A in theory). I really just want to cry.:crying2:

:speechless:

I felt the test came out of left field, asking questions in a way unlike the rest of the course. I thought it was weird going in that we had zero practice questions and zero weekly quizzes to at least give a glimpse of what the test would be like. Thought it was going to be a gotcha test and it was. I did not do well either.

Trinity, are you taking anything for the next 5 week period? I'm going to get my elective in. Then after that, it's the other research class, the 10 week one.

I am taking NURS 5343 Leadership Healthcare starting 8/11. I am in the MSN track. Are you in the NP program?

I am really going to buckle down for this next class, I definitely do not want another C.

Of course, I am sure that the 10 week NURS 5328 Theory & Research Application will be even more difficult than the one we just took.

Good luck to you with your elective.

No C's in two classes. Ended up with a strong B after all was said and done. I am definitely academically bi-polar with the ups and downs that I have experienced during my short time in the UTA MSN Administration program. Six days until the next class starts.

Good luck to all of those who are reading this both now and in the future.

UTA NURS 5343 has been completed. It felt good to have a class that was straight forward. It was a lot of work, but if you follow the rubrics then it is doable. One bit of advice that I have is to read all rubrics carefully. If you are unsure about something in the rubric, then ask for clarification.

I am currently in Theory for the online FNP program and am very appreciative of all of your comments. Gosh, it is so confusing sometimes! I can't believe I am feeling more comfortable in Advanced Patho than Theory right now because my brain understands Patho better than concept analysis and research tools lol!

Just turned in my research proposal for Theory and Research (UTA 5328). I am really hoping to get a good grade in this class. The program is spread out over ten weeks. There are times when you feel like they are giving you too much work, then there are other times when you wonder why they are taking it so easy on you.

The only thing that I did not like is that every assignment counts for a huge chunk of your grade. Study for your quizzes. I received a B on each one because of what appeared to be trick questions. You know the typical nursing test, both answers are right and you have to try to read the professor's mind to figure out which one they feel is the most correct.

This class started with 53 students and ended with 47. An 11% attrition rate. That should tell you that this class is difficult. Everyone needs to take every class as serious as they can.

A lot of time and money is spent with these courses. It is your future and you need to make the most of it.
