I know I am way ahead of the game but I wanted to start this thread early so we could have some time to share pointers and tips we have collected along the way concerning this course. Maybe we can make it a little less stressful by trying to be as prepared as we can!!

Look on here for research from April of this year, that is when I took it, there are a lot of great responses and questions on there. Just pray that you get in a good group:) I had two other people that participated out of our group of 6, and that gets frustrating!

Hi Mary Ann,

Well, you certainly know how I feel about this class. I'll check in with you along the way and tell you anything I can to help. Unfortunately the whole class is laid upon a foundation of group work and that alone will make or break you. Just have to hope.

Stay in touch. You know where to find me.

I will be in this class with you Mary Ann. I am expecting the worst with everything that I have read on hear. Hopefully we will have good groups.

Hi Mary Ann,

You are always welcome to DM or email me when you are in class.

Tips for others would be to always listen to the OOHs and try your best to participate during the live OOHs. The whole class is basically taught via the OOH.

There are only two quizzes, worth 30% of your grade so please make sure you study study study!!! I didnt do well on either of the quizzes so I dont have any advice for you all.

Just DM me if you have any specific questions.

Well if we don't maybe we can help each other not lose our minds!!!

Hi Mary Ann,

Agreed. So much info about the assignments is given to you in the OOH that you're crazy not to listen to it. Attending live is best as you can ask questions and get them answered right away; if you can't make the live session, the recording is kept online for a week for you to catch up on. Hopefully they will have worked out all of the glitches with the chat software by then.

Another source of info is the Class Notes audio lectures. I listened to them whenever I was in the car.

Definitely save the OOH to your computer so you can go back and listen to them later because they delete the recording every week. I was in trouble the last week, because I forgot to save it and it was deleted before I started working on the final paper. Thankfully someone else had listened to it and knew how we were to edit the final draft of the paper.

We didn't get started soon enough the first week, and were doing the bulk of the assignments at the last minute. Mostly because we didn't know how to get organized or how much work we had the first week, plus some group members didn't show up the first week.

I suggest as soon as you have access to the class, go into the week 1 discussion, and split up the assignment and offer to be the group leader for week one. This way everyone can start working on the assignment, and if one of the group members doesn't respond in the first few days, split up that person's work too. Don't give them till the last minute to acknowledge that they are a part of a group, and have an assignment to work on or you will regret it. Some of the group members might have dropped the class, but you won't know that. Some group members might not realize that it is a class with group work, and that the assignments are due on Saturday not Monday like some classes. For this reason people in your group might not sign into the class for the first time until say Friday of the first week, which is way too late to be just starting the assignment. Doing other peoples work is just something that you will likely have to do.

Our group split up the assignment like this; the assignment are set up like this # 1 then a,b,c,d under it and then # 2 with a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h under it. If we split this example assignment among two people, the first person would have #1 a,b,c,d and #2 a,b then the second person would have #2c,d,e,f,g,h. Sounds simple, but we were all confused the first week about whether to just give the first person #1 and the second person #2, but that made way to much work for the second person.

Starting this class too in August. Last one before the capstone! Glad for any advice, but I think it is just the roll of the dice with this one.

I will be starting Research in August also. Thanks for any pointers.

I know this is not about research, but wondered if any of you could give me some insight into the literature classes. Should I take British or American. How to they compare in difficulty say to our nursing classes and/or history. Thanks for any input and still nervous about starting Research!!! I am going to try and not think about school for a few weeks.

I took British Literature. It was not a bad class. If I remember correctly there were several papers and a lot of reading. Some of the reading was quick and easy, but there is a book that you have to read and write a report on it. They tell you the book in the beginning so that you can get started on it. I think that the start of the class you cover Chaucer. I like British lit so it was an easy choice for me. If you do what is asked of you then it goes by pretty fast.
