Online BSN degrees being accepted by hospitals?

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I was recently told that hospitals are not accepting the online BSN credentials. Has anyone else heard this? I am just starting the ADN program at Grayson and was going to transfer to UTA for the online BSN program but now I'm not sure.

The UTA RN to BSN program online program is highly rated, and they are a fully accredited school. I would be amazed if any employer rejected them! I'd talk directly to the nurse recruiter of the hospital(s) you are interested in and address your concern. Texas Tech and UT-Arlington are very reputable colleges. My hospital has a partnership with both to provide the online RN-BSN option to us.

I believe that what you heard is false. I have never heard that. Whoever said that may have heard of a particular unaccredited school that was not accepted by some place, but it would be highly unlikely an employer would reject a fully accredited school's diploma.

If it's accredited, I really don't think hospitals care. I mean, where I am we don't accept degrees from a few for-profits that shall remain unnamed, but that is because of bad experiences with the caliber of nurses they turn out that we have had the displeasure of dealing with.

It's not like your degree says "this nurse earned this degree online!!!" posted all over it anyway, even if they did care. All we care about is that you have a BSN. So many nurses go online to finish their BSN that it's really common now.

What you've heard its true in some places. What I have been told is not to say it is online. If they ask where your clinicals were, then just tell them where your clinicals were. The main concern is the accreditation.

I think it depends on where your online degree is from. Some schools, like UTA and Texas Tech, have online programs that any employer will accept. Degrees from schools that advertise on TV during the Maury Povich show probably won't be accepted. I work for a large hospital system in Dallas and they do have a written policy that they will not accept nurses with degrees from diploma mills. However, they do not define what a diploma mill is. I am unsure if they would hire an ADN to BSN from a school like University of Phoenix. It has a brick and mortar building but some think of it as a diploma mill.

Most brick and mortar Rn to Bsn programs do not have a clinical.

I am not sure how that would work.

I always thought work experience takes the place of the clinicals.

What would be considered a Diploma Mill Rn to Bsn program?
