I just need college algebra and capstone to be completed. I started algebra on the 15th, and so I thought! The class started last Thursday and tried to play catch up with this online 6 week course, haha!! Was I wrong, each homework assignment takes about 4-5 hours per and there are 10 due before taking a test tomorrow, I finished 2. I just dropped the class and then signed up for the fall semester. I wanted to be done in September, but now it looks like December! This is very dissapointing to me :( Anyone have any tips on passing algebra?

I'm in the same position;( I dropped it a few weeks back. It ridiculous the amount of home work we had...it basically impossible if you don't dedicate at least 4 hrs per day to it.

Assuming you are taking it at UTA, the video lectures the professor has for each lesson are quite explicit and step-by-step. Follow along, do it on paper as she does it, watch sections over again, etc. It will come together.

I find that math classes like algebra and statistics are definetly no-BS courses. Unlike most classes, you either are keeping up or you're not. For most of the nursing classes I took at UTA for the AP, I couldn't tell you what I learned. It is quite possible to muddle through those and still get an A. Math and the sciences, not so much.

Can you take algebra by itself? That's what I did with statistics and I'm really glad I did.

I tool Algebra in spring. It was horrifying. The homework as not that bad except that it was extremely time consuming and confusing at times. But the tests were from Hell!!!! You would think 90 mins for 20 questions would be enough...yeah ur wrong!!!!

I trucked thru and made it out with a B which I will consider an accomplishment due to all the horror.

I was taking Algebra through a community college online, I could have muddled along, but I was already 4 days behind and it is a crammed 6 week course, so I didn't have enough hours in the day.

Look at it this way: if you've survived Nursing Research, Statistics and HIST 1311 and 1312, then you can hack Algebra. Don't stress over getting an A in it--you just want to pass it.

I'm sure there's an Algebra for Dummies type book out there that you could use to help you. Get your hands on it and start reading up before the class starts.

I took College Algebra when I was enrolled with Chamberlain; administered through Devry. The ENTIRE course was open-book online. It was an 8-week course but I completed it in two weeks. Didn't get the official grade until the 8-week period was over so I had to log in once a week to show that I was still in class. Got a B because that's what was required to pass the course. Being open-book didn't make it any easier and the official exams at the end of each chapter were timed. Literally, I was up at 5am working problems and stayed on it until 8-9pm every night. I did that 4-5 days per week:bookworm:. In the course, they provided an online textbook yet my advisor said to use whatever resources I had to pass the course;). So, I had a physical textbook(s) from previously-dropped algebra courses over the years:bag:, I had another screen open on my computer to UTA's College Algebra tutoring site, then I had a final '911' screen open:writing: so that I could email my brother just in case I reached a problem where none of the above could help me understand why I wasn't reaching a solution with at least ONE of the answer choices:down:. It was by far the worst two weeks of my life academically but it was well-worth it in the end!

The problem with taking the class outside of UTA is that the OP would have to request and submit a transcript from that class to UTA for evaluation after she finishes it. So that's 8 (or however many) weeks of class, plus 2 weeks for the school to send the transcript off to UTA, plus another 2-3 weeks for UTA to get around to evaluating it (because we all know UTA is not the fastest when it comes to that!). Then she has to hope that UTA accepts the course and gives her credit, which is very likely but never guaranteed.

The whole process will take quite a bit longer than if she just slogs through the class at UTA.

Time is of the essence. I can understand that.:) I thought she might have been struggling with the actual content moreso than the time. Oh well.....I misunderstood. Sorry.

This is a great book for getting up to speed on Algebra: Amazon.com: Forgotten Algebra (9780764120084): Barbara Lee Bleau: Books

Algebra for Dummies is good as well.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know anybody who CLEPPED out of Algebra? I have a friend at work who is going to do this and I'm trying to get some info for her.

I would think the algebra CLEP would be a challenge unless you are naturally good at math.
