What do you guys think of this???

OK, I've been looking, for over a month for a travel position. Have spoken w/lots of recruiters, been doing lots of research. My search was narrowed down to a few good "potentials". Well, funny, one by one, each position became something different....lower pay, different shift, different location, etc. Or just simply..."oh that position is no longer available". After doing reams of paperwork, being made promises, planning start dates, etc. Then the waiting....
So....., one recruiter had me submitted for a job in the desired location, and lo and behold, after weeks, that job "disappeared", but he offerred me another position in a totally different location. I wasn't crazy about it, but agreed to be submitted, figured I could interview and make my decision after speaking w/the NM.
Well, w/out ever talking/interviewing w/the NM recruiter told me I had been accepted for the position! I told him I had never even interviewed and we agred I would speak w/the NM. I tried calling her, left several messages, never heard a word back.
Meanwhile, have thought about it, and have gotten feedback from other traveller's and nurses from that area only to be told what a horrible, "take your life in your hands" area/hospital it is. Ultimately decided to not take this position. Notified recruiter....now he is trying to make me feel guilty....aaying that I am already committed, there are going to be cosequences if I don't show up! Really trying to pressure me into this!
No contract was ever signed, nor did I ever interview w/the NM!
What would you do? What do you think?

I would NOT feel guilty for NOT taking the position. I would cross that Agency off my list and NEVER call them again. If they called me I would hang up on them.

Who is the Agency and Recruiter so I will be sure to never use them?

I agree, run from that agency as fast as you can! There are many reputable agencies out there but there are also some you should steer clear of. Some of the problems you are encountering are to be expected. Just because a position may be posted does not mean you will get it when you want it. There may be many companies listing the same job and it may be filled before they even receive your profile. My advice would be to find a company you trust, so you do not have to constantly be updating paperwork at multiple agencies, and stay with one or two companies. You are never obligated until you sign a contract and you should never take an assignment without a phone interview allowing you to ask questions as well. I don't think any reputable company would ask you to. I have traveled for 4 years and have found RN Network to be the best, most consistant company. I have had no glitches with assignments, paychecks, housing, etc. Feel free to e mail me if you want any other details about them. nursemom@rocketmail.com

Thanks for the feedback, you guys! I was notified today (by the recruiter) that I was going to be "banned" from working at this particular hospital system for supposedly backing out of this contract. Hard to believe as no contract had ever been signed...but, oh well...
Thanks again!

I think that recruiter is full of crap!!! You never accepted the position, just agreed to be submitted. These are two totally different things. Please do tell us what company and recruiter this is so the rest of us will know to stay far away from them. There are some really good companies out there. You shouldn't have to put up with the threats. Just be thankful you didn't take an assignment with this company, or at the least, this recruiter. It is very important to find a company and even more important to find a recruiter you can trust.

In my last postion, I arranged travel RNs for my unit. I would NEVER sign a contract with one until I talked to them. If thery were in the same city, I may have even asked for a face to face meeting. It is a big risk for any hospital to hire someone without an interview. You did not sign a contract, so run away from this agency. There are many good ones out there!

Moondancer,

Curious about the agency and recruiter. Would you mind sharing them? You could save one or more of us from a big problem. Thanks.

You are not obligated in the least and if you are ever banned from working at that hospital you could always get a lawyer. They would have to produce a contract.Just let it go over your head.I have worked contract for about twelve years and love it.Keep searching.

i know how you are feeling right now...........going through the same thing, lots of broken promises from recruiters. Even had one recruiter tell me i was being too picky and should just take what they have when all i am looking for is a med/surg position at a hospital that treats you with respect and some decency.
