Hello all!!! I just got my first assignment as a traveler in Houston! I'm super excited I am traveling with a friend and so now I'm just not sure what to expect at this point. We will be working at MD Anderson and was hoping that people had some experience there or just as a traveler in Houston in general. It would be great to have some idea as to what to expect so any and all input is helpful! Thanks in advance!!!

I'm not a traveler yet but I'm hoping to travel to Houston soon, especially as my first assignment (I live in Texas, about 3 hours from Houston). There are a few people on here who have traveled to Houston and loved it. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

MD Anderson is a GREAT hospital. A few of my nurse friends work there. I reside in Houston. How long is your assignment? Hope you enjoy your stay here!!!

I took an assignment at MD Anderson and hated it. As an oncology nurse I was super excitied about working at the number one cancer center but it was by far the worst experience ever. The nurses prime their own chemo tubing which is NOT safe, they don't scan meds yet, the nursing charting is own paper and everything else is electronic. Since they still use paper MAR's you have to play pharmacist. Needless to say I was ready to run......good luck. Side note the staff on the floor I worked on was not traveler friendly. Good luck!

I hear its a great hospital and that Houston is a great place to be. I always was interested in moving there so I'm loving the opportunity. I will be there from April 29- July 28th. If you have any suggestions on things to do or must see please let me know!

Wow well thanks for the heads up. I am looking forward to it as a oncology nurse. At my hospital we prime our own tubing for chemo as well. The paper charting will be a interesting change but hey that's why we travel to see the way things work in different hospitals and new cities. Thanks so much for the heads up!

Hey! I just took my first assignment in Houston too, starting April 8th! I'm working in the ER at Ben Taub right down the street from you!

Danisweetcheeks that is awesome!!!!! We should hook up while we are there. Are you traveling alone? How long will you be there?? If you figure out how to send me a message directly we can exchange info. I'm still figuring this out lol!! Best of luck you starting really soon!!!

I spent the winter in Houston at Texas Children's. Do you know where you will be housed? I was housed within "the med center" so took the train to and from work. Parking is expensive in the med center and sometimes requires parking in a remote lot and taking a shuttle.

oh my goodness, i just saw this now!!

how are things going for you?! ben taub was definately a huge adjustment for me!! hopefully everything is going well at md anderson! are you ready for this crazy heat?! im not lol
