Travel position turned permanent

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question, I have noticed that when I am at an assignment they always ask me to sign on permanently. My next assignment is at a hospital that I think I am really going to like and may want to sign on permanently. Do travel companies allow you to do this?

The last travel assignment I did, they offered everyone a perm job, so it's not unusual. My company had no problem with it. I think it depends on the company. I decided not to sign on perm with the hospital, d/t ageism and descrimination regarding my ADN degree. I went perm at a hospital closer to my perm home and I am working part time and going back to school online for BSN.

depends. sometimes it stipulates in the contract. at Stanford you must travel for 6 months (two assignments) before you can go perm. at NYP I the contract stipulated that I couldn't work there for a year after the assignment. Other contracts don't say anything about it. good luck!

They've asked me several times to sign a contract at the different places I've traveled to, but the truth is, there's usually a big problem in that dept/hospital if they need you, a traveler to work for them. This has been my experience and after a couple of weeks into your assignment, you too will start noting the problems....

If you find a great hospital you like with good pay and the benefits you want, then why not? Just make sure your travel company is ok with it- I worked with AMN and they insisted we couldn't take a perm job at our travel hosp for a yr after the contract is over.

You will need to negotiate it into your contract or go behind the agencies back to get hired permanently.

I know this is several years old but did the contract state you had to wait a year period or that you had to wait a year before you could work with another agency at that hospital?

I have had the same question and with Aya Healthcare my contract simply states there is a one year period from date of contract before I can work with another agency at the hospital I am at. So to me sounds like a no compete clause between agencies but going full time with the hospital is fair game...

No, it usually applies to the hospital too. Your agency would like to collect a placement fee from the hospital.
