Taking husband and dogs

Hi. I'm new to the forum and haven't gone on my first assignment yet. Does anyone travel with husband and pets? Any tips for setting up housing and controlling cost?

Not a helpful answer but I had to share. My college professor husband has received several research grants and the instructions for getting ready and what to bring have been pretty standard....

One came with instructions in case you wanted to bring your DOG!

Spouses and kids don't go because we'd be a major distraction, but

the dog is a welcome guest?

At that time we had an eighty pound dog plus a forty-five pound puppy.

Oh yeah, that would have worked well.

My husband is retired. Large dog and cat so we complete my assignments in an RV. Not cheap but comfy and we're doing this to see the country, pick a new place to settle.

I travel with my wife, 14 month old baby, and two small dos. Cost end up being a little more in relation to the dogs most of the time (fees, deposits, etc). My recommendation is take the housing stipend and do your own research to find a place. It can be more difficult because you have to find places willing to take you on a 3 month lease most of the time (again, usually get tagged for the privilege), but its much better than staying in hotels. Not to mention, you can usually find places considerably cheaper than the stipend they give. It takes a little more time and effort, but well worth it. I cant imagine traveling without my family...Hope this helps a little...

i travel with my husband and 3 dachshunds. We have taken the stipend and housing before but definitely finding our own is cheaper. We bring a 6x10 trailer with all our home comforts.

All your home comforts in a six by ten foot space? Do the dachshunds all have to point the same way when sleeping?

Believe it or not Ned, you can pack a lot of crap in that 6x10 enclosed trailer. Athough we don't bring furniture.

Oh. I thought it was a travel trailer!
