Hey all travelers!

Have you all ever had to take a week off for personal reasons or a health issue? I think I may need a minor surgery very soon. In my contract it states that if I miss work I could be Charged for the missed pay. That sounds ridiculous! Couldn't I offer to extend another week to make up? I've already been working overtime for them every week and I'm never late. How mad are they gonna be? I am so worried about lost pay and getting screwed. This is where it would be a lot less stressful to have a staff position somewhere. The managers know and trust you am you will get paid sick time probably. Ugh- stressed.

Thanks for any input.

Can you do it after your contract?

Can you do it after your contract?

I'm hoping so.. I'll know within a few days. But if the pain gets worse, probably can't wait 2 more months.

The charge back is simply paying back the real costs of the missed hours, mostly housing. Some agencies will allow leeway if you have worked extra hours, but sometimes they really can't if overtime hours don't have the same margin. Staying an extra week still means someone has to eat those costs for that week. Someone! Some agencies are pretty cool though.

You also have to talk to your hospital. Missing any hours is a breach of contract so they could terminate you. It could probably be scheduled around if you work twelves and they are willing to jiggle the schedule. Mind you, I don't know what the procedure is that you are having done.

Yup, staff has luxuries that travelers don't have. Retirement, sick pay, PTO, and good insurance. But they often cannot bank as much as we do, have to put up with politics and committees, and are stuck! We are free (absent some glitches like this one).

I would say talk to your company and the hospital. I was recently in this situation and had cut my contract 2 weeks early. I had Dr.'s notes and let my recruiter and (in my case) OR director know. They released me from my contract without me having to pay anything. I think the fact that you're open to making up the week would work in favor for you too. Good luck!

Can you not wait until After your contract??
