Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing good. I wasn't really sure where to post this and I know it's a nurse's forum vs. Scrub tech forum. I have a few friends back home who are wanting to be travel buddies, sadly the company I work for right now focuses mostly on nurses. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get info on companies that work with scrub techs and nurses? Or are there any forums such as allnurses focused towards surgical techs that they could find this type of information. Thanks in advance!
  2. I would say talk to your company and the hospital. I was recently in this situation and had cut my contract 2 weeks early. I had Dr.'s notes and let my recruiter and (in my case) OR director know. They released me from my contract without me having to pay anything. I think the fact that you're open to making up the week would work in favor for you too. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Ned! I work in the OR so I figured it would pretty much be that way of seeing staff nurses leave before you do for the day. Main reason I asked about LA is it seems on most agency websites I've seen that there are many positions available in LA currently vs the bay area. Just trying to get a feel out for both. Why is it that people view Oakland as a dangerous place?
  4. Hi everyone. I'm currently looking into traveling into California. I finally got my CA license. I'm currently wrapping up my contract in El Paso, TX. Due to a possible torn ACL I haven't exactly pursued obtaining another contract till I find out for sure what all is wrong with my knee. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about either location. I know the hospital in Oakland would be Kaiser Permanente. Also if anyone knows anything about housing (I've heard from several people finding your own housing is preferable). I have a 4 year old lab who has to come with me. Any info is greatly appreciated! Hope you all are having a wonderful day.
  5. I'm working with this agency currently and have not had a problem with them. I can call my recruiter at anytime with any problems I have and he pretty much gets answers to my questions as soon as possible. My pay has always been on time and I've been reimbursed in a timely manner.

I'm headed back to San Angelo next week for about a week, I figured I'll take the paperwork I need there in person so hopefully the school doesn't screw it up. I've heard from a few past students that they've had issues with the school sending transcripts to other states. At the very least I want to have the ball rolling so I can hopefully have the license or at least be able to say the ball is rolling and be okay with a temporary license. Thanks for everyone's advice! :)
  7. The locations may be the problem, most assignments I've see have said 2-3 years of OR experience. When I first talked to recruiters about travel nursing many told me the only required 2 years of OR experience. I stayed for an extra year to get more accustomed to certain specialties in the OR I wasn't used to.

I moved to San Angelo for nursing school worked in an OR there for 3 years. Decided I wanted to do travel nursing, figured since the first assignment was in Oct. I would have to end up working the holidays. Most of my family is here in El Paso so I decided to come spend some time with them. Hospital isn't bad, though due to some management changed right now it's not exactly the happiest working environment right now.

Has anyone applied for a CA license and about how long does it take obtain? Any hiccups along the way to watch out for? Thanks!
