I'm looking for a travel destination for late summer. I enjoy the outdoors, the ocean, dog parks, and fishing. I would like a small to medium size city. Has anyone had a travel contract at a place like this?

I'm just finishing an assignment right now in Margate, FL. It's a nice size city, not too busy, but only a short drive to Fort Lauderdale. Only 10-15 minutes to the ocean...lots of places to fish, golf, etc. I'm at Northwest Medical Center, a small to medium sized hospital. Might be a bit too hot for the summer though.

I would go out West to Calif. I'm a S. Fl. resident and know better than to be on this coast during hurricane season. It rains like crazy and it floods. It gets so hot and muggy when it doesn't and there are gorgeous places all over up North. My second pick would be somewhere in Maine where you again get out of the worst of the heat and rain.

What part of Cali? I've been to Eureka up north. It was very industrial, but once you got out of town it was beautiful.

I don't know anything from a traveling nurse perspective, but Oregon and Washington have some beautiful areas along their coasts and I believe the temps are much cooler. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been was the Seattle/Bellingham, WA areas. Bellingham is north of Seattle and there are some terrific destinations within a days' drive from there -- Vancouver, Vancouver Island (by ferry), Mt. Ranier, etc.

I think that'd be a very cool place to spend some time during the summer; but again, I don't know much from a working point-of-view for this area.

Medic,

Portland Oregon is just the place....

The weather is fantastic up until November....still warm and comfortable and dry....

One of the cleanest enviro-friendly cities in the country....the light rail is free, so you can travel all over the place without too much trouble. Bikes are welcomed. Dog parks abound....people take their dogs to work there...

OHSU and Good Sam are excellent hosp. to work in....there's also the VA hosp. there....they all hire travelers. It's one hour to the beach....one hour to Mt. Hood....and one hour up the Gorge to Hood River to wind surf, drink beer from the local micro brewery and rock climb until you are too pooped to walk back to your car!

Tillamook Beach is one hour away, and Seaside and Astoria are close as well...
