Yes, have been travelling for two years. I love it. Have been in the Bay Area for most of it.

When you say the Bay area, what do you mean. Can you recomend an agency?

The Bay Area is San Francisco, Oakland, Berkely, San Mateo, Daly City, Redwood City, Fremont, Hayward, with San Jose being the end of the Bay Area. Pretty much, if you look at San Francisco on Google maps, I am referring to the cities which surround the San Francisco Bay. And those who live here have it broken down into different regions. When they refer to the South Bay, they are referring to the cities of San Jose, Mountain View, Sunnyvale. East Bay cities are just like they sound, those along the east side of the San Francisco Bay: Oakland, Berkely, Fremont, Hayward. Another geographic region is the Peninsula. This is referring to cities between San Francisco and those cities just north of the San Jose area. This includes Daly City, South San Francisco, San Mateo, Redwood City, and Palo Alto (depending on who you talk to as some consider that South Bay). Net result is that the Bay Area refers to the cities along the San Francisco Bay.

Does your husband work? I am considering traveling but wouldn't want to leave my husband for a really long time. Currently he is an engineer but is very anxious to leave the industry. Just curious how other couples and families make it work. We want the adventure but want it to be practical too!

You wrote, "PLEASE KEEP RECRUITER INFORMATION OFF THIS THREAD OR IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY. This website prohibits users from posting recruiter information!"

Does that mean that I cannot ask for an agency reference? I'm considering becoming a travel nurse and want to find out which agencies have the most contacts/jobs in New York City. I'm trying to figure out where to begin. Thanks.

Saying "I've gone with XYZ Company and liked it", or "I've heard that ABC has job openings in NYC" is one thing.

Saying "my recruiter's name is John Doe with XYZ company" is different. This is to keep in line w/ our site's Terms of Service that don't allow for solicitation, as we have had recruiters post here in an underhanded way in order to drum up business for themselves.

I Have been traveling for a year. Before I started I was also terrified but it is one of the best choices I have ever made. I travel with my Husband and our 11 and 12 year old children. My husband happens to be in school right now so he does not work and thanks to modern times he has been able to take all of his classes online. My children are also home schooled for the last two years. I don't know how long this will work but it is working for us right now and I absolutely love it.

Been reading some posts about travel agencies/hospitals cancelling nurses due to bogus allegations of "clinical errors" just to save money, etc. Does this really happen? What can you do to prevent it? I really want to travel but don't want to be cancelled because I forgot to chart a bowel movement on a flow sheet. Please share your experiences. Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone know what is the average beginner travel nurse salary? I talked to an agency and they told me $18/ hr for GA and I make more than that here in memphis. What range should I look for?

$18/hr was the TOTAL compensation? No tax-free portion? Are you an RN? I have never even heard of an RN making $18/hr as a traveler or agency. It should be A LOT more than that. Give more details and we can try and help you better.

I read somewhere about a website where travelers can post reviews of their employers. However I've been scouring the web and can only find the UltimateNurse site reviews. I know there's another site that probably has more info - anyone know it? THANKS!

It's not a message board, but they have reviews of hospitals as well as agencies. Reviews are by travelers.
