UTMB Fall 2012

U.S.A. Texas

HI! I am applying for the traditional BSN program at UTMB that starts Fall 2012. I am taking my TEAS this friday and I wanted to know if anyone else here is applying for the same semester. Hopefully there are others so I don't have to be nervous alone!! :D

I'm almost easy to submit my application :D Just gotta figure out how to make my personal statement stand out

I've also heard that those who submitted their applications first where more likely to get in over those who waited till the deadline.... Do y'all think there is any truth to this?

Total myth. I submitted my application the week of the deadline and I'm finishing up first semester. I know many others where submitted late and were accepted or submitted early and didn't get an interview.

I'll let ya'll on in on a little secret - there is NO rhyme or reason to their admission process - so trying to figure it out and guess if you "have a chance" will drive. you. mad. Just submit your app and hang tight :)

Personal statement - VERY important. My essay is what even got me an interview invite - the school had my transcripts all kinds of messed up and I was BELOW the min GPA requirement. Something in my supporting statement didn't match up with their records, so the specific purpose of my interview was to clarify.

Take the time to make it clear, concise, and professional, because early submission won't give you any sort of edge.

I submitted my application the day before it closed and I got the second interview slot out of all the interviews... So, unfortunately and as much as us all on the previous threads tried to prove differently, there is absolutely no rhyme to UTMB's madness--uh, I mean, their rhythm...lol

Personal essay is SO important! Take your time editing, rewriting, and having it read by someone else.

Good Luck!

I agree with ledestiny & punkydoodles...take your time with your statement! My GPA wasn't considered 'competitive' (3.1 overall & my science GPA was significantly low :( ) and my Teas score was 89% but I had a pretty good supporting statement and in my opinion, that's what helped me the most. However, I wrote 4 drafts and had a good friend of mine who just graduated from UTMB proofread each one.

Also, I didn't have any prior experience with nursing and my interviewer actually pointed that out and said he would have liked me to have some experience. So, those who don't have any experience, you could maybe look into volunteering at a local hospital or something of that sort and you could mention that in your statement, too. They want to know what you're getting yourself into and what being a nurse consists of and that you didn't just put a bunch of potential careers in a hat and randomly pick nursing.

Good luck :)

I am also applying to the FALL 2012 BSN program!! GOOD LUCK to everyone!! hopefully all goes well for everyone:) I have taken the TEAS V before and must say that it is rather lengthy, but if you practice the online tests and I purchased the book and I can not explain the amount of help it provided!! I am retaking my TEAS on December 21 for this application process!! good luck everyone!!!

If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA and test scores?

I was reading on the application website that the transcripts need to get accredited by another company? anyone else take this route? or do you do it through NursingCAS

polysaturate - it's been a while since I applied, but I don't remember having to have my transcripts accredited by another company. I know most schools will use SPEEDE to send the transcripts to UTMB electronically, which is what UTMB prefers, but that's all I know.

In my opinion, I wouldn't use NursingCAS, because of the delay. All your transcripts must be sent to them, and once your application and payment are complete through NursingCAS, only then do they send it to UTMB. And all this still must be done before UTMB's deadline. I got this from the NursingCAS FAQ website: Now, I could be reading it wrong, but that seems to be a pretty big delay.

Q: When should I start the application process?

A: APPLY EARLY! Submitting your materials early will ensure timely processing and help avoid delays. Once your application has a complete date, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your designated programs to view your verified application in "real time" in their admissions portal. Your application is considered complete when NursingCAS has received the following:

  • Electronic Application
  • All Official Transcripts
  • Payment

I hope everyone had a great christmas. Well I took the TEAS this week, and I was not happy with my scores. I feel like I did poorly :( I got a 76%... but the last time I took an english class was many years ago... and I cannot even remember when I last learned anything to do with Earth science, etc. I did great on the scientific reasoning and the human anatomy section. I don't want to retake this test.... Guess I will just submit with those scores and try to make sure my student statement stands out so I can get an interview..... Hope everyone has a Happy New Year :)

Hemphia you did great on the TEAS! That was a super hard test! It is tough that the TEAS tests over courses we are not required to take! Besides their cutoff was 58% and you smoked that! Your grades are really good, I'm sure you will be fine! Keep your head up! I hope you have a Happy New Year! :D
