UTHSCSA Spring 2011 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

hello all,

guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.

i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.

look forward to getting through this process with you.

thanks, but it sounds like you need the luck. holy cow! i couldn't imagine taking all of those classes at the same time. with that kind of work load, you should have no problem in nursing school. i will be glad to just have one class in the fall, so i can relax a bit before i (hopefully) start the nursing program.

I know it sounds crazy. But actually it's not even my worst semster. I will have taken all 62 hours of pre-req's in only one year, it's been a killer trying to do them all. My husband actually jokes that nursing school should be a breeze after what I've put myself through in the last year! It was a race to get into nursing school though, hubby is military so I have no choice but try to get through school as fast as possible before we get sent somewhere else! I appreciate the chance to be able to go back to school, I love college so much, I am so grateful that I have so much support. That will be SO NICE to only have one class in the fall! You'll be all ready to start nursing school (I'm sure you'll get in!) in Jan! I'm getting to the point where I wonder if I'll end up being too exhausted...

Does anyone know: on the Microsoft Excel sheet that they send you of your transcript review, what it the box that says "TASP/THEA-M" etc.... there are three little boxes like that. What is that for?

it refers to the general tests that are required to enroll in college and include math, reading, and writing.

That's what I thought. But mine says "C" in the box and I have never gotten a C in my life. That's weird. Well whatever. Okay so you said that you went to an open house before, right? Do you know when they start telling people stuff? Because looking through the "UTHSCSA Spring 2010" thread, it looked like people weren't getting notified until late October. However when I went to the open house in Feb, they said that by late August we should know if we got in or not. Did they change something from last year to this year? I think I might just go to the open house again here in a couple weeks to ask them all my questions again. That will mess up a lot of things if I have to wait until October to find out if I got in, when I originally heard it was in August.

i know that they changed the process. they used to bring people in for interviews, but now they are just using the essays. i also noticed that they got my transcript evaluation done before the deadline. i think maybe they are working on those prior to the deadline to speed things up. i didn't get mine until the end of january when i applied for fall admission. looks like they are doing a great job of streamlining the process.

i was anticipating sometime in september, but if they say august, then i am good with that. i plan on going to another open house as well.

no, nothing yet. they seem to be sending out the transcript evaluations pretty quick, but i'm thinking it will take about a month to get anything else.

maybe then we will start seeing a little more action on here. :-)

I just called today and the admissions lady said that emails to take the TEAS test will be sent out the third week of July. I know you don't care since you've already taken it, but for the rest of us, this is important! :)

oh...i care, believe me. that just means we're one step closer. i'm attending the open house on thursday afternoon (7/15), so i will confirm that they will take my previous results. i was told they would, but you never know.

ok...went to the open house this afternoon and found out some good information...

like you said, the TEAS invites will go out next week by e-mail, and we should be getting acceptance/denial letters starting the first or second week of september.

one interesting fact i found out is how they calculate who is accepted:

GPA ~30%

TEAS ~60%

essays ~5%

so, if invited to take the TEAS, do your best on it. also said that 130 students would be offered slots, and the rest put on waiting lists in order of their overall score.

another interesting thing i found out is that they are planning to make all of the textbooks electronic. they will be preloaded on a laptop that will be a required purchase. it's not going to start until fall 2011 though. i'm all for that. surely it will save money in the long run, and no books to lug around.

i'm just really excited. every time i go there, everyone is so helpful and encouraging. i wish september would hurry up and get here! :yeah:

sorry...i just realized that the percentage for GPA should be ~40.
