UTHSCSA Spring 2011 Hopefuls

Published

hello all,

guess i'll get our thread started. i've watched these over the last few semesters, and it's a great way to share information and get to know each other.

i applied earlier this month, and got an e-mail this evening letting me know that i am eligible regarding my prerequisites. i was surprised to get something back so quickly since the deadline is july 1. anyway, that's the first step in the process...a long, long process. :) hopefully, there will be plenty of us on here to keep each other company.

look forward to getting through this process with you.

Oh okay good! I was getting nervous there for a minute! So any tips you can give about handling the wait now?! These are going to be the longest months of my life! Like for instance, how long did it tkae for you to hear from them at all? How long was it until you got a letter to take the TEAS test, etc? Ooh and one more thing. What does your schedule look like approx.? Is it every day from 9-3 or how is it set up?

i think in about 1 month-2month you will get invited to take the admissions test. since i applied in jan and found out that i was accepted in april, it will take 4 mths to find out (give or take) who is admitted during the first rounds (those that are waitlisted will have a chance if people that got admitted reject admissions).

the only class that you can choose the time frame to your schedule is the clinical which is nurs 3305.everyother class is already pre-set.

that doesn't look like too bad of a schedule. i will be driving in from buda (south of austin). i'm hoping that i will be able to work as well. i went to one of the open houses, and one of the students said she was able to handle it, but we'll see. if you haven't been to an open house, you should go. it was very informative, and they give you a tour. everyone was very warm and welcoming. i really felt like i made the right choice by choosing to apply to this program. :)

yeah the schedule is not that bad. wow, youre commuting all the way from buda. I attended UT and remember the drive :)

Holy Cow! That is a loong drive! So you don't have a lab on Wednesday? I thought a friend of mine said she had clinicals on Tue and lab on Wed but that was several months ago, maybe I go that wrong! So they choose every class time for you! Bummer, I was hoping I could choose a few of the times. Oh well. I wont complain! I'll just be excited it I can get in! I didn't know the open house was supposed to have a tour! I went to one in Feb and they didn't give a tour.... Hmm maybe I'll go to another one!

oops, yeah i believe that you have labs the opposite day that you choose clinicals (tue clinicals/wed lab and vice versa).

i honestly don't remember if it was late last year or early this year that i went. maybe they have changed it. still think it's a good thing to do though.

as far as the drive...it only takes about 45 min to get there. commuting will be much easier than uprooting my family. heck, just getting around austin takes about that much time, so it won't be too bad. :)

where are you guys from?

@keili-where you also going to apply to ut austin nursing program?

I'm born and raised in san antonio : ) (just went to ut austin for 1 1/2 years)

no...i just really like the program at uthscsa. i actually never even considered applying to ut austin. ut austin has a lot of different schools in one, but uthsca focuses only on the health sciences. i figured it would provide a better learning atmosphere since everyone is basically on the same track. if i were young and looking for the "college expericence," then yes, i would have probably looked at ut austin. this is my second run, and i'm not a spring chicken, so i just want the education. :)

Yee haw! (I love typing that, but I've never said it in my life!) I got an email today saying that they reviewed my transcripts and I am eligible. That's good at least! I am seriously dying to take the TEAS though! I can't stand waits. And I'd really love to know my schedule (if I get in, that is!) for spring because I need several months to work out childcare for my little kiddos..... I hate the waiting game.... the next months are going to be miserable. At least I am still taking prereq's so that keeps me busy. I should probably be memorizing bones right now anyway.... BYE!

what classes do you have left? i'm taking chem II and micro this summer and physio in the fall. can't wait for summer to be over...lots of work.

as far as the teas, some people got the study guide. i took it last semester and did well enough without studying, but some people swear by it. you might look into if you think you need to brush up on your math and english skills.

I am taking AP I and Acting right now, for summer semster. Then I am taking AP II, Chem II and Micro in the fall. Hopefully I wont die from brain injuries between now and then! I can't imagine my poor brain taking in all that knowledge all at once! Oh well. I shouldn't do too bad on the TEAS, I hope. I am strong in Math and English. But I am a slow reader, so I never seem to be able to finish those sections on exams, which drops my grade. Then I should be okay in science, but I haven't taken geology or life sciences since like 9th grade, so that's what I worry about most! Good luck with your course load, it sounds tough as well!!
